Three Players Suspended

Postby Mop Up » Mon May 17, 2010 5:53 pm

Just heard on 5aa, Press Release from Crows

Bernie Vince, Graham Johncock and Matt Jaensch suspended for one week from AFL for not showing up to training in fit state I believe.

Can play in SANFL, Johncock will serve suspension when fit again.

Bloody Hell.

What's Jaensch thinking, surely after his previous experiences he would be on his best behaviour after finally breaking into team.

Just when you think things around the club could not get any lower, this happens.

What the hell is going on down there??

Where's gossipgirl?

We had a debate about the credibility of our leader (Judd) when the Blues were 'off the rails' in the pre-season. I'd like to know what she thinks of Goodwin as a leader.

Seriously though, Matty must need his head read. WTF's he doing? Vince and JCock should know better.

Obviously doesn't have the true desire to be an AFL footballer. Cleary has the talent, but not the drive.

I've been through this with Pfeiffer, now it's happening all over again. Sick of it.

shame, shame, shame. Our on field form is a disgrace, yet we have (at least) 3 players refusing to do anything to address this, and have been rightfully been suspended.

I'm glad the club has finally said enough is enough and starting to draw a line in the sand to address this. I hope Neil Craig punishes the rest of the side on the training track for their on-field performance on the weekend.

Suspension is for a "breach of training and preparation standards". FFS even their club sanctioned suspensions are drawn out & complicated..!!

If they are suspending players for having a big night out on the cans why not just say that..?? From an outsiders perspective i think the crows could certainly look to simplify a few things within their footy club.

It's not a true suspension anyway, they will be still having a kick in the SANFL.

So in effect they will get paid the same money to do a much easier job with alot less care factor. Money for jam for these blokes.

No, they wont get the same money. They dont get paid for an AFL game if they dont play it.

Ok, i thought that they would be on a salary and get performance based bonuses.

No wonder the salary cap would be so hard to manage as depending on injuries, suspension, form a club could spend x amount of the salary cap each year as im sure all three of these players would be on different amounts per game then.

At a guess, Vince and Johncock would be losing more from their hip-pocket than Jaensch.

A suspension from AFL level definately hits them where it hurts.

I don't reckon any of the 3 are guaranteed a spot after suspension either. Even Vince could be out for at least a couple, he has been very poor this year and gone way backwards.

People call for the sacking of the older players, but the reality is they are still doing what would have been expected of them at the start of the year to a certain degree. I don't think Craigy was expecting them to be match winners this year, that mantle was supposed to have been passed to Vince and co. We can all see how that's turned out. More than happy for a few of the young 'guns' to cool their heels in the SANFL and get some perspective back.

Just an after thought, surely most of a players salary would be a retainer, you can't tell me Andy Ottens is getting paid a red cent this year.

I believe they get a certain retainer based on their experience, years in the game etc. Probably negotated as part of their contract for the more established players.

I dont know the complete ins and outs of it mate, but they definately get paid a match payment. Im not sure how that works with salary cap, etc. You are right, they do get a retainer of some kind but i dont know what percentage that makes up of their total salary or contract.

Players are basically on a Base Wage then get Match Payments on top of that. All contracts have an "injury clause" written which may pay the players 50% (for example) of their Match Payment.

So whilst these 3 guys will still get paid for playing this weekend in the SANFL, it will not be to the same level as an AFL game as they will not receive the "AFL Match Payment".

Hope that makes sense.

They will also become the targets of the anger and resentment currently bubbling within the supporter base at the moment. An unenviable position but you would have to say one that they fully deserve.

Hopefully they respond in the right way by returning to the side and playing the type of football they should be.
