Now THAT was one of the great Grand Finals of all time

Talk on the national game

congrats to both clubs for providing such a contest, at the end when it is a 1pt result a fair bit of luck comes in to play, so congrats to the Eagles probably not much doubt that the Eagles were the best side going around all year

better players for me

Sydney - Fosdike, Richards, Kirk and Goodes

Eagles - Embley, Glass, Selwood, Waters, Stenglien, Judd

League - Top 5

Yes, that's why I said that it was ONE of the best ever. I am yet to see the 1989 GF in full - the best ever VFL/AFL GF, in my opinion, and I want to.

yep 89 still in front of the last two IMHO, apart from the tackles, aggro, Yablet putting on a virtuoso performances (how good was that grbp from boundary throw in and then one step bang goal!! in the second quarter), Hawthorn players playing with injuries....The game in 89 had more total points scored than the last two combined.....

It was an attacking goal fest!!!

Do yourself a favour Spelly, beg, borrow or steal a copy....

PS I've heard a copy of Jean's pre-match talk, where he warns Brereton that he will be challenged today and he'll need to stand up today and prove himself.......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Mostly early to mid 80's football which was not exactly a high point in the development in the game.

Good table Rik-E.

89-Monumental GF with the best team of the decade holding out the side with the most individually brilliant footballer of the era having a belter.
06-Other than 89,one of the most gripping final qtr's of a GF anyone has seen.Lead changes, big marks, great goals,an amazing spectacle, and a 1 point GF win, surely the best way to win,and the worst way to lose.
04-Sorry,sentiment cam into it,and to not have this in my list would be foolhardy.Beating a (tired and near flat) outfit that had won 3 flags in a row,and had made that day in September their own, after 3 looong years of dissapointment. What a win.

The Eagles on Saturday have showed (and Sydney) how AFL football should be played, take note,Neil Craig,Mark Williams,Neil Daniher..

No they would not have,it was a Grand Final.

(45 points is hardly a gripping contest,I'll admit that, but if the Catters had beaten someone, anyone for you to be there and see, regardless of the margin,it would be in your top 3.No question)
