Tough luck Panthers. Do you want ya' kitchen sink back? They threw everything else at us.
From my point of view Norwood made too many changes from last week. Players & positions.
Norwoodians can say we had the cattle & control to get over the line when it mattered.
If Panther fans had bothered to come out to training Wednesday night, you'd be able to say
that the players had nothing left in the tank, for last the quarter, after being flogged at training.
Just my opinion of course. South are improving and teams not taking them seriously, do so at
their own peril.
The whole Norwood league team might go before the tribunal this week on a new charge...

How do Norwood fans feel having to admit that their coach handed out a lesson today from the coaching box in how to coach at SANFL level?????????

Old school attacking football in the last 1/4 blew the Panthers out of the water. Clay went to ground and went defensive and Trevor showed him how its done......

To south's credit - they held on for an impressive amount of time. But as time passed, Norwood slowly got closer, and closer, and closer. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but once those rush of behinds began, surely the alarm bells were ringing in the box? They were their own worst enemy. They still had a 14-point lead with six mins of actual game time left, so the match was there to be saved with better tactics.

I can only remember one occasion in the last quarter where they went inside 50, and that was a string of about five short kicks maintaining possession and Cockshell took a contested mark just outside 50, but it was wasted with Norwood outnumbering South about 3:1 in the forward line. Forward entries were like gold in the final quarter but surely there was no way Clay and co were content with a three-goal at three quarter time? Norwood were down by 40 and pegged it back to 20 after they had the wind.

Luck or chance can do a fair bit over 100 minutes of footy. Not saying it did in this game but your confidence that there was no luck involved is a bit rich. Perhaps an umpire was unsighted by a segull in his direct line of vision and missed a free in front of goal. That would not count as luck? 8)

You make your own luck is what I say. ;) The ball bounces in your favour, play in front and get more frees is what happens when you are going well in a match. It just seems to be that way.

Norwood would of been UNLUCKY to have 30 to 19 scoring shots and lose.

I agree that hard work is a bigger factor than luck but you can't entirely rule out good fortune when it comes to winning matches, or even flags. I know you'll point to player management here but St Kilda's fortunate run with injuries this year is a significant factor in why it is finally putting its best football together. Another example of the Saints being on a bit of a roll that has little to do with workrate was the long range spectulative shot that was a goal from Milne that bounces truly through the big sticks where the same hopeful punt at the goals from the Blues a couple of minutes later bounces the wrong way for a point. Two goal turnaround in a nine point result.

The game we love is played with a funny shaped ball that can bounce any which way at times so I don't think you can entirely dismiss luck as a factor...espcially in close games.

regards,

REB
