dont know if the margin flattered them or us, we were crap when it came to handling errors, our third qtr was atrocious, the umpires for most of the match were deplorable - dont know whats happened there, too much afl mimicking maybe, however a win is a win, to be 4-2 and playing shitehouse is ok from a tigers point of view, if we can rid ourselves of the costly turnovers in the backline we might be a threat. thought jimmy sellar did pretty good today, and grima later in the match, match fitness will help him, poor josh carr didnt know what to do with the ball when he got it, however thats to be expected not knowing the players or the gameplan, all in all it was disappointing but looking from where we have come from in the last few years we should be reasonably satisfied, a mountain of work still to be done

Fair summary Stampy

I only got there for the 2nd half, thought we did enough and while they hit the front it was thru no system, just opportunistic goals therefore wasnt really worried at all.

Our commitment and small teams stuff was so much better this week, we just need to sharpen our skills and game plan.

Good to be winning with so much improvement in us.

Interesting that Sampson and his coaches were still up in their box 20 minutes after the game when I left

Who'd a thunk it??

Need to show improvement on today to win our next two games against likely finals contenders. There's a lot to be said for winning ugly but gee all our wins have been this year so I for one are getting sick of it. Mind you unlike last year when we won 13 in a row we haven't had the same line up all year so it will be good to finally get a settled line up so blokes can gets some consistancy in our system. Far too much 2nd guessing and wrong options being taken.

The best thing today was our ressies had an 15 goal win, time to put some pressure on spots.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Full points for originality, but we both know what it's like to be 2nd a lot so I reckon there's some sympathy there. :)

Much like the dogs yesterday, a win is a win and it's all 2 points. Rack them up early so you can address player management alot easier and not rush players back from injury and so forth.

Nothing to worry about for the bays at this stage sitting 4-2.

135 more disposals and a heap more inside 50 entries, it's fair to say the Bays were easily the best side out there, but far too inclined to handball under pressure, if you turn it over you might as well stick it on the boot and turn it over 50 metres further away from your goals. Carr and Fisher were ball magnets, Backwell worked into the game as it wore on and put his stamp on the game and Grima was fantastic crashing the packs (taking out Torney on one occasion!) and kicking 3 goals, 2 coming in the last quarter when the game was on the line.

For South fans at least you hung in there despire being outplayed, Boyd was good but when Sandery is your second biggest possesion winner deep in defence you've got some problems. At least you only play Port next week!

South had a crack but as is usually the case just weren't good enough when it mattered. 15 minutes in the second Q were costly as the bays killed us out of the middle to find a multitude of forwards lining up to take an easy grab.

To the boys credit the third Q was a huge improvement, as a couple of tackles finally stuck (been terrible to that point) and the bays didn't handle the pressure well. We managed to capitalise, not through slick forward entries, more just getting numbers to the contests and kicking it long inside 50 instead of mucking around with it.

3 points up at 3/4 time, but the bays wrapped it up in the opening 10 minutes of the last term.

Some of the new guys showed a bit for South, Lyons in particular, while Cockshell did some good things after half time and will be better for the run (kicking is a worry though). Boyd, Parry, McKernan, Sandery were also ok. Torney injured again a concern (showed courage as is the norm), while Boyd's groin looked proppy in the final Q.

Bays were decent but are capable of far better footy than that you would hope if you were a supporter. On the plus side a few of us gave Chri$ Hall a nice welcoming home.

I would say that the Bays wasted to much of the footy by careless footy, to have 35 touches a quarter more than your opponent has to say something when the best they could do was to shake of South only in the last quarter.

South harrased pretty well all day, made plenty of mistakes as well, kicked to no one in particular, I can tell you one thing, when a lot of these young kids get about 20-30 games under their belts there will be a lot of opposites going home with the cockiness knocked out of them.

biased opinion maybe, but would have to agree...
free kicks - south 27, bays 14

still room for improvement on what we saw from the boys today, though happy to have the win
