Postby DOC » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:34 pm

Talk at training tonight was that David Clarke is to retire due to a chronic back injury.

Can anyone confirm please.

So that is Clark Burford Mallard Obrien and Ward that have left after signing on only last year.

Surely a question of depth for North Adelaide this year.

He was only ever going to be a fringe reserves player at best IMHO. The others as you said UK will have an effect on their depth.

but some of those got told to go as well, so if its a question of depth then obviously the coach feels the depth is there to cover some of those.

Clarke - ordinary skills who is injury prone and has lost a touch of pace.
Burford - virtually a joke that he ever played league.
Mallard - just a seconds player at best.
O'Brien - tried hard but lacked genuine skills and speed.
Ward - honest performer at best but lacking in leg speed and was way OVER RATED and OVER PAID

No real loss any of them

Seems this might be the reason for David Clarke retiring...

From today's Herald Sun....

THERE are many who would say it was inevitable that Cameron Ling would one day own a bar. It's fair to say the Cats vice-captain has been in one or two in his time and would class himself as an expert when it comes to the finer details of the environment required to enjoy a relaxing beer.

After more than six years in the planning, Ling is confident he has finally found the perfect spot in his home town.

The Cats on-baller has joined forces with former teammate David Clarke and long-time friends Darren Holroyd and Dominic Tripodi, the owners of Geelong's legendary nightclub Lambys, to open Edge on the city's waterfront.

"What we wanted was a place where we would love to come with our mates and our family, to have a drink and a good meal," Ling said. "Just relax and be able to enjoy ourselves.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. What an awful investment he turned out to be for SAFC and NAFC.
I saw him play at Unley last year and he looked disinterested. Maybe like a number of players he lost respect for Jar's, but whatever the case just seems a waste.

it'll free up the salary cap a bit more, i think if he's gone back to victoria because of a pub, it is very disrespectful to north adelaide

Forget the fact that it's a pub, it's understandable if anyone gives away their sport career to pursue a business interest that they believe will ultimately be of greater benefit to them.

i understand what your saying cp but i'm 'old school' & to me he has/had a commitment & should honour it, lets face it the pub will still be there sept/oct when he could then move to victoria after honouring his obligations, however i'll grant you a club could sack a player but that player would get all payments owing

A club shouldn't commit to a contract where a player could potentially walkout and still claim the $$ from then ... I'd imagine if he goes it would come at minimal cost to the Roosters.

Umm according to the coach as recently as last night Clarke's lost weight, is fighting fit and in the leadership group. :?
Perhaps we might want to get our information about Clarkey from places besides bitter South supporters?

Also find it strange that just cause someone owns a pub that they need to be in the same state as it?

When did you last see the owner working the pub? :?

The Hilton hotels owner is constantly working in his pub. I think the good publicans spend a bit of time pulling beers.
