So hypothetically if Port's opposition kicked 1.7 that day to Port's 1.6 (100 years ago!!), that wouldn't be taken into consideration?? What a joke.....lets look at all relative things, the fact that its 100 years ago, obviously the level of scoring back then was considerably less than it is now or in 89......you North supporters cant deny it but the 1989 Grand Final is the by far........

THE MOST EMBARASSING EFFORT IN A GRAND FINAL AS FAR AS EVERY LIVING SANFL

SUPPORTER WOULD BE CONCERNED (well apart form the North supporters who are in denial

and like to talk about a game 100 years ago)!!!!!!!!!!

The Eagles may have lost by over 20 goals a couple of years ago, but for North to kick 1 goal in a GF (yes in 1989 well within our lifetimes), in fine conditions, when the opposition kicked over 15...........oh but thats right North only had "one goal in mind" didnt they. I remember after the game Nunan said, "well we only had one goal in mind.....and plus Port kicked 1 goal in a GF in 1905 so taking that into consideration its been a pretty good day for the club today.."

We might have only kicked 1 goal in 89 but i still think losing by over 20 goals in a GF is worse. North only let Port kick 13.

Just curious can you find the actual source for this quote as I seriously don't believe this. Also if you reckon it was fine conditions that day you weren't there. The wind changed direction at will and there were intermittent showers and drizzle all day.

Hehe sorry LL i made that quote in jest.

Yes it did come in a bit wet but i think that was after half time. Port managed 15 goals so i think that indicates that goalscoring was possible that day.

Anyway, this topic has been done to death and i'm just as guilty as anyone on here.....

play on guys........ :)

Wouldn't be bring up Coaching appointments if I was you, VV, as Glenelg has an outstanding record in that department.

Well there is One thing all North fans should thank Bones for is that if it wasn't for him there wouldn't have been no Motlops and no Cubillo's playing for North

In 1997 Shannon and Daniels father (Eddie) asked his brother Mark who would be better to play under the Stringer or Bones and the answer came back McDermott. Now Thomas is at North (Marks son) and EJ has sent Josh down to North because Mark is coaching Wanderers in Darwin. With the NT footy community being so small, the Campbells followed the Motlops to North....

So North supporters thank your lucky stars you had Bones as a Coach otherwise the Motlops, Cubillos and dare I say it the Campbells would have gone to Glenelg......

Nearly correct Tassie - Motlops spot on and we haven't looked back. Might have 4 tied to North next year if Shannon returns (Daniel via the Power and Aaron, Thomas and Shannon)!

Re the Campbells - they came to because Jason Roe came to us via Collingwood (originally from Alice Springs) and through hard work by our Football Manager and then last year Joel Campbell from Melbourne (via Alice Springs) Matt Campbell just tagged along to se if he could get a game in the 17's. Irony is he is a star and Joel is in the two's. Don't forget we have the McAdams in Alice and Darwin as well as contacts. Gilbert McAdams son is down with us this year in the juniors. He chose North over Centrals on his fathers advice. Helps when you have a few of the brothers already at the club.

We nearly jagged Darryl White too except for cold Adelaide weather and his wife. Cousin to the Campbells and nephew of former North 1982 player Lance.

A fine day Gww, MY ASS!

Was the most shitful day that I can remember on a GF. Even the TV camera man on the high bucket was taken down because of safety.

Yes the rain came at 1/2 time but the wind was enourmous and I remember waking up at 5am thinking that the weather suited Port as North were very one dimensional that year.

At the end of the day GWW, dont talk crap about the conditions and the game as there are a few of us at this site older thatn 25 years old.

Wasn't 100% sure about the Campbells, I know their step father was looking to send Joel to Port Adelaide in 2001 as he was struggling with some disruptive influences in Alice Springs. Roy has a few contacts at Port. SO if their step father had had his way the Campbells would be at Port.....

So with respect to the Motlops and Josh do you look back on the McDermott years a bit more favourably?????

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

He also got rid of Sanford, destroyed Tim Nunan, Richard Gerke but if we take the Motlop situation in hand then we have come out this end all the better. He did bring back the big V though after dicussing it with all concerned including the Supporters - that was a postiive too!

They've also saved the world for the past two years by finishing third so we didn't have to listen to the rantings of their coach in GF week

If there was ever a coach that totally screwed North it was Mcdermott. The unlucky Hart inherited his stuff ups. I'm not saying he (hart) was perfect but given the talent North had at the end of the 96 & 97 seasons North shouldve been much much more.
In Darel Hart's 1st stint as coach, North made the finals in his last year that being '95. If he had stayed on instead of going to the crows who knows what the late 90's might have produced as far as success goes for the Roosters.
89 GF was a terrible day and bad publicity for the sanfl. It was only good for the port fans and who knows where North's mind's were at that day?

Wouldn't be so sure of that if I was you punky. There's another team by the name of the Eagles. I do beleive we've now won 8 straight including a demolition job on your Rooters. We now sit 2nd on the ladder and that's only on %. We're easily the form side of the comp at the moment and will take a lot of the beating when it comes down to it this year. Don't get too coccky just yet mate.
