i agree but i don't think roy would leave central & i can't see craig departing either, however as i said i agree roy laird is a far better coach than neil craig (actually there are a fair amount of coaches out there better than craig)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Well I wouldn't think Adelaide would be smart enough to make the ultimate offer he couldn't refuse, but apart from that Roy has one final mission to complete in 2009! (and we all know what that is  )

Roy Laird has proved nothing until he takes another club to a flag.
If he took North to a flag in 2 years, I would agree he is the best coach ever, but it aint gonna happen.

As much as I love the SANFL, the standard aint the same.
Compare apples with apples.

Until Roy (if ever) coaches an AFL side for at least a few years you cant compare.

Has Roy Laird coached successfully at any level other than SANFL, or with any team but Centrals where he had a good squad to start with??
If not, it is hard to make realistic comparisons...

Spot on.

Until Roy is tested at that level it's complete guess-work and a matter of opinion. Apples with oranges.

If Roy is happy to stay in the SANFL only then even he wouldn't go speculating that he is better than any AFL coach. I'd really like to see Roy test himself at AFL level one day.

Agreed, very similar to Gary McIntosh never playing the VFL or AFL ... Most people think he would have made it, but how can we assess that definitively?

Ask Neil Balme and Peter Rhode.

I'm sure if you even asked Clarkson that question you'll get the same answer.

Just on that.. how many coaches who have been senior coach of an SANFL side has senior coached an AFL premiership?

Quickly I can think of Clarkson, Malcolm Blight and Mark Williams.

All u blokes are kidding urselves. Craig took a list (if u can remember back this far) that was predicted to finish 15th, & turned a bunch of no-names (excluding Roo, Goody, Edwards, & Macca) into genuine premiership contenders. Now that the elite from his squad are getting older, he copes all this flack, when the truth is, he gets more out of this group then any1 else ever could. You look at his list for the past 5 years, & is hasn't changed heaps. So my question is why all of a sudden did a team that wasn't rated at all was being talked about as a great list. I tell u why!!! Craigs training, mental preperation & his willingness to get feed back from his players.

You may not like this but it's the truth- Because of Neil, the rest of the AFL have had to step up there training professionalism, and demand more from every person on their list, because he was doing that at Adelaide. I dont even really support them, but i sure as hell respect them.

Their list in real terms is around the 13-14th best (in terms of talent)but he gets them to finals regularly & if he had a better run with injuries he would have won a flag by now!!!

Roy is a great coach, dont get me wrong, but could he & does he have the knowledge Neil has to get these boys to their absolute best???

Old coaching proverbs...

"The better my players, the better I coach..."

"Some coaches dream of wisdom and forsight, I dream of 280lb linebackers who can run 40 yards in around 4 s" American Football coach
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
