Symes, like McLeod gets the freedom to run as the back 6 of Adelaide cover for each other better than most in the AFL.

In the winning Port side of 07 playing good running football off half back was P.Burgoyne,Wilson had patches,Lonie was drafted to do that job and in a winning team did so.This made it difficult for Symes to break into, what was at the time,a team in the top 2.

Now he has been given chances at Adelaide he has been servicable and I dont expect many Crow fans would say he has been any more than that, sound without being stand out.

In Thompson I think Port have a tough hard runner who may just lack a bit of polish, now dont get me wrong I think he should be in our 22 and be given a real opportunity to settle. He could play the role that a clearly injury hampered Jacob Surjan did this year. Not many rate Surjan and I can honestly say dont rate him on 08.

Thompson I think should be played off half back and not entirely as a midfielder as midfielders in the main are and inch or two taller than him and he just lacks a bit in the air.I would not like to see him leave, that's for sure.

I'm not calling him a "star" Booney, but he has been in the best player list fairly consistently. The Port hierarchy did under rate him, and I think they are doing so with Thomson too.
I think both will develop into good, not just servicable, players.

Don't know why you'd have reason to think that, but I can guess why you'd like to think that. Playing for Sturt in the finals will more than likely increase his price and bargaining power for the power.

And if he gets a relatively serious injury, Port would get nothing whatsoever for him.

Exactly my point, any team that would want to trade for him will want to put him through a physical examination, playing more footy with OB or any other niggle is going to jeopordise his price, dont be suprised if he gets yanked from the blues

Ah yes, that mysterious OP that Adam didn't even know he had.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Looks like Adam Thomson has confirmed he wants out of Port Adelaide, most likely to a Victorian side:

Good to see Adam Thomson picked up by Richmond, good luck to the bloke he wasn't given a fair enough go at Port.
For the pathetic season they ( the Power ) had & not to give Thomo a fair opportunity to prove himself may come back big time & bite them hard in the arse, i hope it does!

I think they will regret it some time in the future when they play Richmond. I'd have been happy if the Crows had picked him up that cheaply.

He played a third of the season this year, so he was given a go. Maybe he just wasnt good enough? SANFL form means very little.

He seemed to be doing better than a lot of his team mates in the few Power games I saw on TV from here in Victoria.
He was at least he trying to get the ball in every match I saw, which is more than could be said for some who are still there.

In hindsight he probably only played when P.Burgoyne missed a few games, when C.Cornes missed a few and when Salopek missed some and it would be hard to argue a case for him getting picked ahead of any of those three.

On a side note,if Richmond,as they have pick him up in a trade does that not say something about the guy? If any of the top 8clubs had really chased him perhaps you could see his net worth, but if a team outside the 08 top 8 are after him perhaps he is just that,a middle of the road player.

Adam Thomson averages 14.5 possies in 60% game time in the games he played in season 2008.... not bad for a youngster still learning the trade. IMO Port didnt give him enough opportunity in a season that was had lots of injury and players down on form. There is no doubt in my mind that choco didnt like him and thats why he is gone.

I rate Thomson, Really think he'll be alright at AFL level, just needs to be given a full run.

Even though I rate Thomson - he's looked great in patches...

I agree but the poor bloke was only allowed to play patches of footy, he was getting splinters in his arse the rest of the time, thank god for Sturt.
Hardly call that an excuse.

P.Burgoyne,S.Burgoyne,Salopek,Boak,C.Cornes,K.Cornes,Cassisi.

Which one of them would you drop to have given Thomson a real go NM? If all of them were fit at once.
