What a last quarter. Centrals didn't look like they had a chance until time-on in the last quarter (tho my Dad thought we were still in it when we were 6 goals down 10 minutes in the last quarter). Each goal that we pegged back I got more and more excited, climaxing with Callinan's goal 27 minutes in.

Then the heart races as Norwood miss a couple. Then the siren goes, and I cannot believe we actually won!!!!

As for the Norwood supporters, I certainly heard some new sayings today hehe, but it just made celebrating each goal in the last quarter (when we had the chance to win) more joyous, and when Callinan kicked the matchwinner, the verbal diahorrea I'd heard for the opening first 3 and a half quarters inspired me to give out the loudest cheer I've ever given in a minor round game.

What I found interesting was when Centrals had the lead, Norwood supporters, rather than lift and try and help their side regain the lead, the ones around me seemed to be in some sort of panic, loudly proclaiming that Norwood were going to lose...

WHAT A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Probably haven't enjoyed a last qtr of minor round footy that much since the game at woodville in i think 2002, it was just brilliant.

Well done to the Norwood fan after the game who got stuck into me with insults about how we have not been in the comp as long as Norwood, infact, im told we havent even been in the comp for 100 years, a very sad a disturbing fact, i walked out of the ground with my head hung in shame due to this  some people are just very bitter when they lose, but it usually just makes for abit of amusment at that idiots expense

Fair guess that James has managed a good night sleep with worse thoughts in the past, AH. I've not heard too many people that have seen James (or Chris, for that matter) week after week questioning the Gowans' role in the CDFC's success - now or since they arrived.

Irrelevant. With 18 shots to seven by half time, Norwood should have had the 'dogs on toast. Two chances in the dying moments to snatch the lead back and your boys murdered both of them. And for the fourth time in the last five CD v Norwood games, the 'legs have managed to kick stuff all in the last quarter while watching Centrals nail six or (plenty) more.

Now, instead of being just one point off the top three, Norwood are now five premiership points off the double chance with just six games to play. Perhaps a familiar story not unique to CD v Norwood games AH, but it seems Central had fewer "passengers" than their opponents when the game was there to be won.

I heard there was a couple of ugly incidents involving Tyrrell and Thomas (yet again). Thoughts on these? IIRC, the radio callers made the Tyrrell strike sound very bad..

Good post StrayDog, I don't think there can be any argument whatsoever about all of that, well said.

Joelie, it is an interesting point and one I think all of us Legs fans have been mulling over ... I would suggest the answer lies somewhere among all of the reasons you've listed.

I have no doubt Norwood have their best squad in 5 years at present, but many are coming from a long way back and have forgotten how to win when it matters ... Whilst you never want to lose, I think this group needed to be exposed to the big moments like that yesterday, to show exactly what it's like against a top side that just chokes you with their pressure - The only way to break through it is to keep scoring and the biggest recipe for disaster is to try to "hold on", unfortunately we didn't respond the way I would have hoped.

The challenge now is to use the lesson positively [-o<

As for the reports, from where I stood I thought Thomas was committed and TW may well have been ensuring it was seen to get a free kick, I think he'll be alright.

On Kenny Tyrell, he also had to go but got there late and it didn't look the best, although his man seemed to get up ok and the action wasn't a lot different to one against Taylor Walker in the first quarter (all as I saw it from the hill, which probably wasn't the ideal position) ... I knew I shouldn't have opened my mouth last week about none of our blokes getting reported!!! :?

I had a good view of Taylor Walker and Daniel Havelberg getting hit and you are right CP in them being very similar. Probably either both or none should have been reports. To be honest I must of missed something when Thommo was reported. Didn't know what the free was for let alone the report as that range seems to be the limit of my 50 y.o. vision. The Norwood blokes didn't seem concerned at the incident in contrast to the other 2.

Play was stopped a lot in the last quarter. Reports, I think there was a blood rule, goals and lots of stoppages.

Thomas was reported for one of those head over the ball bumps. I think he might watch next week's game the way they normally handle those ones.

An excellent game. Was challenged to a fight by a Norwood fan. Thought reminding him of past losses was enough though and I said I had to hurry to cheer off some winners.

Gowans'roles in the team and their ability remain unquestioned. Their pace and run has diminished with age and injury but they are still quality. Much better than Weatherald and Culpitt for example. As for lots of passengers, I counted none. All players made a valuable contribution at some point.

Norwood need to realise tha a player IS allowed to kick more than 4 goals. Walker did so much damage early, and then seemed to refuse to go to him after that.

Always felt Norwood wouldn't handle it well if we got a run on late in the game. Luckily I was right.

I'm only able to comment from what I read in the paper this afternoon, but from what I've can tell, I think your comment is spot on.

Norwood seem to be on the rise at the moment and possibly weren't sure what to do when in that controlling position against a side that has dogged them in recent years. It will be a valuable learning experience as the side progresses.

Were you at the game Elijah Ware was allegedly playing in?

That's twice we've let a very average CDFC off the hook this year. Should have nailed them in the first quarter, should have kept running in the last and should have kicked any of the four opportunities we had to win the game deep into the last quarter. Good teams do this, we however don't.

Spot on IMHO DW, in that a team trying to break through, came up against the masters in "business time" and got mastered by them when it mattered .. We will need to learn how to deal with that now, given every opponent (until we can prove otherwise) will believe we're vulnerable if they continue to come at us.

The Thomas report (on Weatherald) was an absolute disgrace - there was NOTHING in it.

Yeah, that was the same game topsy that saw some guy in red and blue jumper named Nick Jackman either turn the ball over for his side on numerous occasions or be totally outclassed by is smaller opponents to be beaten in contests that were crucial to the final outcome of the game. In comparison to Nick's game, well played Noodles.

Really disappointing result Saturday...the Legs were clearly the better side for three quarters and to throw away what would have been a fantastic win for James Gallagher in his 150th is so incredibly frustrating.....these last quarter fade outs must be a concern for the coaching staff ....surely it cant be fitness levels at this time of the year....Legs might just struggle to stay in the 5 with still two games to play against the Tigers, both down at the Bay!
