Nah, i thought it was McDermott they all couldn't stand which is why there was a mass exodus. I was fairly close with a few of the players at that stage (no astericks please :? ) and remember their discussions quite vividly..

Sorry if I'm repeating what someone else has said, but 4 pages is a lot to read sometimes!

I think North need to look at themselves and their position at the end of the year. When Jarman was appointed they were a rabble lacking respect in this competition and struggling not only to compete on the field but on the verge of complete collapse. Jarman was the ideal choice for the club at that time, earned the club respect, returned a competetiveness that led to a GF last season and from what I gather a solid foundation off the field and the club will never be able to repay him for that. However, any club is bigger than any individual and must look after themselves first and foremost. The situation the club is in now is totally different to the situation when he re-joined the fold. The club now must seriously look at it's priorities. Surely that has changed from survival to becoming a goal of having the greatest chance of winning a flag as possible. If Andrew Jarman is not the person who is best positioned to win that flag then they need to part company. If he is then they should do what they must to keep him.

Once again the example of the dogs must be looked at. Alan Stewart brought the club to a certain point, and for one reason or another left. We then were able to bring in people the club thought would get us over the line. Stevie Wright failed, but Jonas did the job soon after. Stewart was and is a much loved figure at the dogs, but wasn't able to do the whole job. Perhaps North need to concede Jarman can only bring North to a certain point before a new person has to take over to finish it off.

By the end of THIS year we will be recognised as a rabble with little respect in the comp.
Jars did a good job but he has lost the plot and many players and the clubs off field woes were cured by Robert Gerard

The hard part is finding the right person to take North to that next level [as we all know]

Jars will jump (once/if mathematically not possible to make GF/final5).

Picking the right replacement is directly proportional to the people picking the replacement which is the problem at NAFC (or all clubs to be fair).

There are 2 key factors here:
1) establishing the criteria for the replacemment coach
2) selecting the right person against that criteria

One might argue that NAFC have not got both right together since 1981 (read into that what you will). 8)

they did have a mid season slump though almost lost to freo!! almost lost to brisbane without Black and brown. and got thumped by collingwood

I considered those matches as early season not mid season.

I would disagree with you. I reckon Jars will step down once the season has reached its end. Walk away from there.
North have done well to come back from where they were but, lets be honest a Mr Gerard in each group would be fantastic.

Are you saying the selection of Mike Nunan was a poor one?

No the opposite AH. I am saying that the Nunan appointment was the last time NAFC got both criteria right.

Yes, it's an interesting one isn't it? When Norwood appointed Neil Balme ahead of Nunan in 1980, it appeared to all and sundry that Norwood had made the correct decision, expecially in the light of Balme winning 2 flags and making 3 Grand Finals in his first 5 years at Norwood.

However, restropect is a wonderful thing, and looking back I've often wondered how Norwood would have gone with Michael Nunan in charge. The way he set up at North would have been IMHO ideal for what Norwood were trying to achieve at that time, and maybe Nunan would have brought the Redlegs more flags over the next 10 years than 2, given the talent available to him in that period. In a sense, many Norwood supporters feel that Balme actually underachieved at Norwood.

Still .. it's all theory, and we'll never know.

Whichever way this all pans out, I hope North and Jarman remain on good terms, as there is nothing worse than having former greats NOT involved in the club, or attending club events, due to bitterness...

Given the amount of people on here wanting to see the back of Jars, you could not really blame him for feeling a bit bitter towards supporters and members of the club.

Just imagine, if Jars DOES leave North, what the heck will people on this site have to talk about?

Yes, and very much like when Hammond took over from Oatey at Norwood in 1974.
