purch wrote:What a fantastic, clinical display of football by Sturt against South...errmmm I mean North today. Played in front, first to the ball, harder at the man with excellent chasing and tackling, won the ball in close, destroyed their opponents in the air, and most importantly, on the scoreboard.

North were on top for the first 4 minutes of the match I thought. They also dug a little deeper for the first 4 mins of the 2nd half and forced a plethora of stoppages, but apart from that they were smashed.

Take a bow Coad & Chambers...7 goals each. Coad in particular was just grabbing everything...and just when we thought we'd seen it all up pops Chambo with a pack mark 5 deep, surrounded by red and white. Other highlights included Coad's 3 rip snorter goalsquare marks, Feast's running goal, the 2 or 3 checkside goals (Chambers and ?), Whiteman's footy smarts on couple of occasions, and Papa's constant niggling of Allan. Magnificent! Others that were good were Gum (2 goals and a target all day at CHF), Sheedy, Feast, Whiteman, Wicks, McLeay, Thomson (mainly early on), Evans, Crane, McGlone and Fittock. Sharples was also typically "flashy" in patches early in the game. I must say Damon White looked completely buggered by 3/4 time. Is he really an AFL footballer?? Head down in the last quarter, he looked like a bloke contemplating retirement!

That was clearly the most polished display by Sturt so far in 2008. That said, I'm sure North supporters would agree that their team's effort was very very poor if not pathetic/insipid, so the win has to be seen in context.

Fantastic crowd too and what a perfect day day for footy! Now cows or puffs in action..must have been 4k+ there. I hear they got a similarly good turn out at the Bay. Quite a lot of red and white in the crowd but not a heap of noise to say the least. It was quite eerie at times.

I haven't visited the roost yet, but biy I can only imagine the back stabbing and sniping. Surely Jarman is now on thin ice...or is that inappropriate?

Image
i would say that he would be on thin ice theres alot of people at North say that we will never win a flag under jars because all the players are down hill skiers

there could be a whole heap of clubs looking for new coaches next year

North (ROOSTERS BETTER HAVE A GOOD SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR TO SAVE HIM)

wwt (RONNY FULLER SAID THIS COULD BE HIS LAST YEAR)

PORT ( CLUB OFFICIALS HATE LOSING AND TIMMY IS IN BIG STRIFE IF YOU SPEAK TO BOB CLAYTON)

SOUTH ( WILL THEY KEEP CLAY SIMPSON AS HEAD COACH)

STURT ( HEARD RUMOURS THAT RICK MACGOWAN WILL BE ASSISTANT AT HAWTHORN NEXT YEAR)

Well done Sturt ! Good crowd , IMO over 5k but I think I heard 4239 . I did not hear or see 1 North supporter within 20m from where we were standing. ? Whats going on there , I know they forecast rain , but dry all day. Some did get a put off by that from what I read on here .

So , I think it's that time North folk to start blaming your coach again....... Can someone remind North that when they play Sturt No 31 is Adam Thomson , the same guy that smashed you lat time. A little respect would't go astray . Quieter in the 2nd halk and spent most of the last Q on the bench. Thanks Choco.

Well done to Chambo & Coady 7 each I think. Will be a bit different opposition next week , Norowood will be hard at it and we will have to work a lot harder for a win , which we should do.

5RPH who are a little less biased than you said it was a very good turnout by North supporters.
I was amazed it was 4329, I guessed high 3000s.

Re McGowan assistant at Hawthorn next year - would have to be a possibility, given link to Clarkson when they were both at Centrals, but didn't Rick sign for 2 extra seasons last year? I know SANFL contracts can be broken when theres a possibility of a coach going to the AFL, but i would have thought Rick would be the type of guy to honor a contract (that is assuming that i'm right and he's got an extra year to go)..

Rick did sign a contract extension and as you say is not the type of bloke to cut and run. I think it would be very doubtful that he would go. He never played at that level and has business interests here in Adelaide

I can only go by crowds when they say it is around 5 k eg Centrals at the start of the year and it was very close to that. Not a biased comment surely , when there were not many North supporters around me ??? The facts are that there were not many around me

Extremely biased if you havn't got eyes like everyone else and make an assumption that its not a good turnout because noone wants to stand by you. You couldn't see the hill from where you were standing? Were you behind the grandstand? :?

Oh spare me mate The facts are it was a good crowd , more than high 3k's and not many near where I was standing. You blokes are unbelievable, you get soundly smashed and you still manage to bite back. Clickety click !! Mate read the comments and respond accordingly . No one said the world respnds around me but comments like yours and others and we all realise how precious you are and in fact ou think the site revolves around you .

Well played Sturt 106 point victors. Nearly the highest score ever against North . 2 points off I think. Come on Andrew !

Sturt played very well today. My Sturt supporting cousin was back from Indiana for the week and picked his first game for seven years well. His beloved double blues kicked a record score against north, hammering their percentage down below ours!! He also witnessed the mega choke from choke-os chokers.

Very poor effort by the alcohol procurement people at unley, sold out of bourbon premix, and TED's by half time...... Pathetic.

Sturts Best.

5th Feast
4th Gum
3rd Thomson
2nd McLeay
1st Whiteman.

Rick did say it was hard to give out the awards as all 21 players deserved one. North didnt move the ball well, when they made a mistake they where dealt with it in a good way. How come Ladhams didnt play, was it to do with him playing with Moonta?
