There's a lot of heat in the Eags and Cocks clashes of late that combined with the 2 finals last year the intense battle between fans on this site it's really a rivalry that's set to sizzle in the near future. Watch this space. I think it will start again this weekend when we knock your cocks off your own purch.
Ahh well mate, each to their own, you get excited when you play us, to us its just another game and no different to playing any of the other sides.
LMAO!!!
Back on topic, there's a bit of Sturt vs Port talk on here.
Sturt sort of relinquished a claim to its super power status with those 8 years we had beginning 1989. Since then there was only a brief period where Sturt and Port were on song at the same time, then Port slid a bit. In fact, when Sturt finished 8th a couple of years back (our first dud season in a few years) was the first time Port made the finals in quite a while. So on one side of the coin there haven't been so many occasions for big clashes between two in form Port and Sturt outfits recently.
On the other side of the coin, the Sturt vs Port grand final in 1998 was an awesome spectacle. It was my first Blues, Magpies Grand Final. You could feel the two old foes reaquainting themselves through the energy coming from the crowd, and a lot of the crowd looked old enough to have been at the last 1976 meeting between the two sides. Talk of that day 32 years earlier was a hot topic between the two sets of fans, I witnessed some red hot arguments just about each time that year was mentioned.
Overall I think we are up in grand finals vs Port, I know that since the 60's we have claimed 4 Magpie scalps on Grand Final day, while they have claimed just 2 Double Blue scalps. Before our Golden era I believe we got a couple of other grand final wins over Port also. Perhaps we could once have laid claim to the greatest rivalry on that basis, but as I said, we have since been missing each other too often.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
