Great days.

On the topic of decades and spelly is probably going to give the best answer but are we considering a decade as follows in these 10 year blocks ???

1900 - 1909
1910 - 1919
1920 - 1929
1930 - 1939
1940 - 1949
1950 - 1959
1960 - 1969
1970 - 1979
1980 - 1989
1990 - 1999
2000 - 2009
It is what it is !!!

*sigh*

The first year was #01 not 00, so to be technically correct the decades are
1901-1910
1911-1920
1921-1930
1931-1940
1941-1950
1951-1960
1961-1970
1971-1980
1981-1990
1991-2000

Hence why Sturt and North both won 12 flags in the 20th century....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Went and googled the millenium question and here is the answer !!!

When did the present millennium begin? Was it the year 2000 or the year 2001?

Some people think the new millennium started on January 1, 2001. Most think it began on January 1, 2000. The majority view is closer to being right.

Those who think the millennium started in 2001 are correct when they say there was no year 0. The calendar, as prepared by the monk Dionysius Exiguus in the sixth century, placed the year AD 1 directly after 1 BC. Today's 2001 supporters reason therefore that the first year was AD 1, and to get a century you need to finish 100 years later, at AD 100. If you finished at 99 you wouldn't have 100 years.

This leads the 2001ers to believe that each new century starts with a year ending in 1 (for example 501, 1001, 1901, 2001). And because millennia begin each 1000 years, they deduce that our newest millennium must have had its beginning in 2001.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decade

the first decade of the 20th century indicates a period from January 1, 1901 until December 31, 1910.

The majority liked the idea of celebrating on the start of a year with a nicely rounded off number, not the actual start of the new millenium, the year 2001

IMO a decade is from 00-09. The 80's include 1980 - not 1990 etc. etc.

That's what I'd classify it as. Generally because it's more relevant to nowadays is why we talk about the 90's as '90, '91 etc that it differs from what a millennium is classified as.

But a decade in general terms does not necessarily mean those sets of years - it can be any ten years: "in the past decade"; "this business has been going for over 3 decades"; "celebrating 2 decades in radio commentary" etc. The term decade referring to the 90s is a general term, rather than a technically correct term.

Agreed for indeterminate epochs of time but if you are strictly talking about the 70s, 80s, 90s etc who won the most flags in a particular definitive decade 01 is your starting date...
