Is there another major modern city around that hasn't got an airport rail link?

Our airport would be the closest to the city of any capital city. When younger I always thought they would move the airport to Edinburgh and sell the airport land for houses.

If it ever moved it would be miles and miles out of the CBD. Parafield runways are about half what's required for passenger jets so it would have to be way out on the plains/planes somewhere.Brodlach wrote:Our airport would be the closest to the city of any capital city. I heard the taxi industry threatened to mount a massive campaign during the next election (ala SA Ambos) & Dan caved inCorona Man wrote:Beggers belief that we don't have an airport rail here in Melbourne.Jim05 wrote:Long overdue but by time they build the rail link it will be time to move the airportJimmy_041 wrote:The new Airport Link should be (re) announced just before the next Victorian election

(I'm not sure they would have the same effect as the ambos)

We’ve been involved in the future plans for ADL and that should see it future proofed at the current location for several more decades.Brodlach wrote:Our airport would be the closest to the city of any capital city. As to airports that are close to cities, believe it not some have decent sized airports literally in the middle of the city. London City is one my faves as it’s built basically on an island on the Thames and you land at eye level with the buildings in the CBD, stunning approach views

What do we all think about James Vlassakis being granted parole after 26 years? His image will be suppressed and he will be afforded anonymity for life.

Not sure of the accuracy, but the 'Tiser reported it as being the first serial killer in the world to be granted parole. Not the kind of first you should be striving for...Booney wrote:What do we all think about James Vlassakis being granted parole after 26 years? Re: I need to know....
Sean Fewster on his regular AA breakfast spot said he'd been researching for some time the validity of this claim, he and others have not been able to find anywhere in the world a serial killer who has been released on parole. Many instances around such an event ( ie a murderer was released then became a serial killer etc ) but nothing like this.wenchbarwer wrote:Not sure of the accuracy, but the 'Tiser reported it as being the first serial killer in the world to be granted parole. Attorney General, Police Commissioner and Commissioner for Victims Rights all have the right to appeal it, and let's hope they all do and send a message.

Re: I need to know....
If he didn't do what he did, he would have been one of the victims himself. I used to work with a lady who was very close to this case as her house mate was one of the first murder victims and she was on the school committee with Wagner. I met Vlassakis' brother a few times as she became a mother figure to him after all this went down and they had a horrific childhood. I sat down with her one day and she told me the whole story and it gave me chills.Booney wrote:What do we all think about James Vlassakis being granted parole after 26 years? So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Herein lies the question, can someone who killed 4 people, dismembered them and help place the pieces in drums of acid ever be rehabilitated?Brodlach wrote:It’s a tough one, I’m certainly an “eye for an eye” type person but we don’t have that.

If he didn't do what he did at least 4 and maybe more people would still be alive.Bum Crack wrote: If he didn't do what he did, he would have been one of the victims himself

I'm sure the Parole Board knows a bit more than we do with what's going on. I couldn't care if he rots in jail for the rest of his life BTWBooney wrote:Herein lies the question, can someone who killed 4 people, dismembered them and help place the pieces in drums of acid ever be rehabilitated?Brodlach wrote:It’s a tough one, I’m certainly an “eye for an eye” type person but we don’t have that.

Absolutely, but he was living in absolute fear and he wasn't smart, he would've been killed the moment he walked out of the cop shop.Booney wrote:Herein lies the question, can someone who killed 4 people, dismembered them and help place the pieces in drums of acid ever be rehabilitated?Brodlach wrote:It’s a tough one, I’m certainly an “eye for an eye” type person but we don’t have that.
