Our airport would be the closest to the city of any capital city. When younger I always thought they would move the airport to Edinburgh and sell the airport land for houses.

If it ever moved it would be miles and miles out of the CBD. Parafield runways are about half what's required for passenger jets so it would have to be way out on the plains/planes somewhere.

Is there another major modern city around that hasn't got an airport rail link?
Thanks to Uber for breaking the taxi stranglehold
Long overdue but by time they build the rail link it will be time to move the airport
Beggers belief that we don't have an airport rail here in Melbourne.
By the time we do, I will be pushing up daisy's.
I heard the taxi industry threatened to mount a massive campaign during the next election (ala SA Ambos) & Dan caved in (I'm not sure they would have the same effect as the ambos)

We’ve been involved in the future plans for ADL and that should see it future proofed at the current location for several more decades.
As to airports that are close to cities, believe it not some have decent sized airports literally in the middle of the city. London City is one my faves as it’s built basically on an island on the Thames and you land at eye level with the buildings in the CBD, stunning approach views

Looks like the Check In expansion will be done as quickly as possible.
What do we all think about James Vlassakis being granted parole after 26 years? His image will be suppressed and he will be afforded anonymity for life.

Not sure of the accuracy, but the 'Tiser reported it as being the first serial killer in the world to be granted parole. Not the kind of first you should be striving for...

Sean Fewster on his regular AA breakfast spot said he'd been researching for some time the validity of this claim, he and others have not been able to find anywhere in the world a serial killer who has been released on parole. Many instances around such an event ( ie a murderer was released then became a serial killer etc ) but nothing like this.

Doesn't sit right with me.
He pleaded guilty, too. Doesn't deserve another chance.
Attorney General, Police Commissioner and Commissioner for Victims Rights all have the right to appeal it, and let's hope they all do and send a message.

If he didn't do what he did, he would have been one of the victims himself. I used to work with a lady who was very close to this case as her house mate was one of the first murder victims and she was on the school committee with Wagner. I met Vlassakis' brother a few times as she became a mother figure to him after all this went down and they had a horrific childhood. I sat down with her one day and she told me the whole story and it gave me chills.
So you've seen everything have you? Yep Have you ever seen a man eat his own head? No Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Yes, he would've ended up in a barrel too, he got his reduction because he told all despite how bad it made him look, once you're there, you're f******.
