It looks as though the outgoing senators (i.e. whose terms expire 30 June) and a couple of other members/senators who aren't absolutely guaranteed re-election, all got to vote. Senators Reynolds and Hughes were openly supportive of Ley. Not sure about the others.

This means that the numbers could change a bit in a couple of months. I'm not sure whether the Liberal Party rules still permit mid-term spills or whether there'd be support to change horses early, but given the closeness of the vote, Ley will no doubt be looking over her shoulder.

LNP went from 78 of the 89 seats in 2012 to 42 in 2015, Labor 11 to 44 to form government.

Federal Labor aren’t that great, so 3 years is more than enough time for them to implode if they so wish.

There are more than a few Labor MPs who should just enjoy the last 3 years of their parliamentary career.

Agree with this. Think Ley was their best and only option, but they wont be any chance of getting in for the next six years at least so their next Leader to challenge is not even in Parliament now!

They got lucky that the Coalition **** up this year
If the unrealised capital gains tax gets in, there will be a massive reaction
