Pretty unconvincing result though, you would have thought that they could have overwhelmingly elected a new leader … but no, let the whole world know how divided you are.Brodlach wrote:WOW, honestly didn’t expect her to win.
First ever female leader of the Liberal party … it’s only 2025.

Agreed.dedja wrote:Pretty unconvincing result thoughBrodlach wrote:WOW, honestly didn’t expect her to win.
It looks as though the outgoing senators (i.e. whose terms expire 30 June) and a couple of other members/senators who aren't absolutely guaranteed re-election, all got to vote. Senators Reynolds and Hughes were openly supportive of Ley. Not sure about the others.
This means that the numbers could change a bit in a couple of months. I'm not sure whether the Liberal Party rules still permit mid-term spills or whether there'd be support to change horses early, but given the closeness of the vote, Ley will no doubt be looking over her shoulder.

Great point regarding members who won’t be there in 6 weeks.RB wrote:Agreed.dedja wrote:Pretty unconvincing result thoughBrodlach wrote:WOW, honestly didn’t expect her to win.

Happy to be corrected, but I don’t recall a party who have seemingly imploded so badly in 6 months.

They're 6 years from making any sort of challenge, she won't even be in politics.Brodlach wrote:Won’t be the next Prime Minister and more than likely won’t be leading the Libs to the next election

Re: Albanese Labor Govt Watch
2015 Queensland election says hello.
LNP went from 78 of the 89 seats in 2012 to 42 in 2015, Labor 11 to 44 to form government.
Federal Labor aren’t that great, so 3 years is more than enough time for them to implode if they so wish.
There are more than a few Labor MPs who should just enjoy the last 3 years of their parliamentary career.

Agree with this. Think Ley was their best and only option, but they wont be any chance of getting in for the next six years at least so their next Leader to challenge is not even in Parliament now!Booney wrote:They're 6 years from making any sort of challenge, she won't even be in politics.Brodlach wrote:Won’t be the next Prime Minister and more than likely won’t be leading the Libs to the next election

Re: Albanese Labor Govt Watch
Just needs one large f. up by Labor and it changes overnight. If they get tax on unrealised gains through, that might do it.

The last government was a monumental f.up
They got lucky that the Coalition **** up this year
If the unrealised capital gains tax gets in, there will be a massive reaction
This is not a tax on the rich - it will be a tax on everyone

Initially it will be (min. $3m in super before taxed i believe) but once it is in, it will never go away and the boundaries will change.Jimmy_041 wrote:People have some bad / selective memoriesMW wrote:Just needs one large f. up by Labor and it changes overnight. It will certainly target the small business owners who funnel their business assets into their super.Brodlach wrote:Agree, have that much in Super you’d have at least that in cash and assets
