Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Maybe the SANFL, via it's league competition, should go all in and facilitate Sydney, GWS, Brisbane and Gold Coast Reserves teams in exchange for more AFL cash and sponsorship to keep our clubs and competition afloat and maintain its aim to be the 2nd best competition in Australia? Add Southport and Darwin.
Or we just aim to be the best competition in South Australia? Even if that means merging into a divisional structure with the Adelaide Footy League and perhaps the bigger leagues closer to the city, so each club can find its own sustainable way.

The AdFL doesn't need them and probably has more cash than them (which is the usual reason for something like that happening)
There is already cooperation / interchange of players between some SANFL and AdFL clubs

It's all gone quiet on the player pinching front!
Apart from McClennan, no-one else has been pilfered,

Not needed now, a dozen meagre SANFL players cannot match what one Rory Atkins will bring to the Power reserves.gazzamagoo wrote:It's all gone quiet on the player pinching front!

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
How's it failing, they don't really need to recruit anyone else if they don't want. They got a $70k boost to spend on 1 or 4 players. I assume they'd be waiting until after the draft. P.s be "funny" if the Crow drafted Mclennan.gazzamagoo wrote:It's all gone quiet on the player pinching front!

That 70k should have to be split equally between 4. If they dont get 4 so be it but quarter of 70k is all one player should getDogs64 wrote:How's it failing, they don't really need to recruit anyone else if they don't want. They are probably likely to get the best 2 players for 35k each so the SANFL clubs cant compete with that

Only South supporters can take the high moral ground and complain about this set up now you’re down here with us “Yes” voters…
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Mark Ross has been quoted as saying, "If we're being honest, we didn't vote for it that way. Our CEO, Greg Edwards, was on the committee and he was pretty strong in the fact that he thought the four players that are 21 or over that were going to be taken by either the Crows or Port should come from any of the interstate competitions, not South Australia".....When asked if he thinks the initiative will result in more players being brought up to the AFL through the SANFL pathway, Ross had his doubts. "You can play in Timbuktu, mate" he said "If you're good enough, they draft you. Yeah, I'm not a believer (that the system will give more AFL opportunities to SANFL standouts)." _The Bunyip Newspaper.
So, was there a vote? If so, who voted and what was their vote? If it was all the SANFL clubs and if a majority voted against it, obviously they have no power. Greg Edwards "pretty strong" against it had no impact. Who came up with the concessions? Why would the committee come up with the concessions and then a committee member vote against it? If Greg Edwards didn't believe in the concessions why not say that to members? Given so many real SANFL followers didn't believe there was a need for any concessions, why did they give them concessions and why so generous?
Where's the transparency from the SANFL??? Who wanted these concessions and who will truly benefit (what individuals) from them getting in (I imagine Olsen, Kelly and Davies now at the AFL clubs approve)?

Yes, sadly true but let them say that.wenchbarwer wrote:Long story short, AFL money is the answer to all your questions
In the SANFL 2023 Annual report it states, "We would like to acknowledge the AFL for increasing funding for Game Development back to pre-Covid-19 levels and we look forward to further strategic investment in the coming years". So, if the SANFL or SANFL clubs said, "no we don't believe the AFL reserves need any further concessions, and they won't be implemented". Does the AFL say, no "David Koch says they do, so this is what it will be, or we'll cut funding or not increase it". If so, publicise the "ransom", the cost of the SANFL integrity. Or just say, okay they'll no longer be in the SANFL and the AFL club or AFL can fund them in a reserves comp.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Interesting message to all supporters from the CEO of the CDFC, in respect to the concessions handed to the interlopers.
The last time I wrote to our members was to lay out the new recruiting regulations provided by SANFL to PAFC and AFC. Let’s say the response back to this CEO wasn’t too flattering, but in this job, one of the pre-requisites is having thick skin!
I’ve always thought providing as much information to members was very important, even if it was news that would be controversial or potentially not supported by our members.
Being on the large working group for that process was interesting, and for those who felt like I’d abandoned them, no I didn’t support the concessions handed to the AFL Clubs,
our club’s stance was a long way removed from the final concessions offered.
But, enough of that, we move on and get going again for 2025!

That’s a very strange message … why didn’t he outline what the club’s stance was instead of pretending he agreed with the decisions until he realised supporters thought it stunk?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.
