Sifting through all the rubbish online, North fans seem split about this
Absolutely we would take Houston, if he didn't want to play for us he would have played hardball and said I only want to be traded to Collingwood. This hasn't happened.
He is on a contract at Port that is well below his current market value (signed before his 2 AA's)
Booney wrote:Houston for Lukosious and Richards - even? - Not at all. If we value Houston as 2 x 1st rounders this isn't even close. Pick 13 vs Ports 2025 Rd 1 pick - even - Agreed. Pick 29 to take on Atkins’s salary dump - even - I feel sick thinking about it. Pick 36 vs Pick 39 and 58 - even - Potentially using 36 to get higher, ok I guess.
Yeah I wasn't convinced the first line is even, hence the question mark, and the word 'perhaps' in the sentence before.
Dan is a duel AA, and he's important to our structure as seen with our poor finals performance. But then again, he's a half back flanker vs a tall forward, and I rate tall forwards higher. There is also the fact that Jack is 3 years younger, but you could counter that by saying KPP don't last as long as flankers, so perhaps their lifespan isn't all that different.
As I said, happy we said no, but will be interesting to see what unfolds.
As we know, Ken is happy to get in players that aren't getting a game at their current side, and a few of them turned out ok this season (Sweet the main one), so perhaps there is something there with Richards, although I don't see it.
Good to see we have decided to go ahead and do nothing this trade period just keep Houston and our picks 39, 58 forget about bringing in Lukosious and Richards who we appeared to be chasing at one stage
Carlton must really think there is a special player available at pick 3 this year when they have effectively paid pick 12 , future 1st round, future 2nd round pick 73 and Matt Owies for Pick 3 , 63, 68 . Seems a large price to pay for pick 3

But to get that pick 14 they gave future 1st and future 2nd to Hawthorn last week

Fair call, so it's actually :
Carlton Receives: Picks 3, 63 and 68 Gives up: Matt Owies, picks 12, 2025 First round, 2025 second round and 73
Thought Port moving up from picks 39, 58 to 13,29, 36 plus getting in Lukosious, Richards (both of who we chased) and Atkins who at pinch can play half back for losing Houston and future1st round pick was a bit of a win as got us higher into this years supposed deep super draft

Yes which seemed to me to be a high price for basically 3rd round this year

We'd still be very keen to get into this years draft, not sure how we do that now though.
I dunno maybe I'm a little biased but I thought Richards was great given the little opportunity he's had at the pies. Good decision maker, quick, takes a good overhead mark and he's mature bodied. I'm happy to keep him.
