Green and Starc provide the selectors with some headaches. If Starc comes in it will be for Boland who i thought was better than his figures suggested. Starc adds some much needed depth to the batting line up however.
Green is real tricky...can he bowl (?) I would have him in either way, if he can bowl that provides the selectors with a ton of options. Play him as the second fast bowler and add an extra batsmen, play him as the second fast bowler and play a third genuine spinner, play him as the third fast bowler and leave the structure of the side the same as the first test.
Given Cummins came out during the week and said that it was just one test and he had faith the team picked was the best 11 they had available i cant see Warner being dropped (especially given Renshaw should go first).
Starc also adds footmarks for the spinners to hit. That could work against our right hand batters.
Yep and if we lose the toss and bowl first those foot marks are doing India more good than ourselves.
I reckon the whole 'they bring footmarks' is the most over-valued attribute in cricket. Lose the toss and it works against you.

I can't find which one it was but recently on one of his podcasts Jarrod Kimber discussed the Footmarks effect on a match as he had looked into whether or not they have a big effect on spinners taking more wickets and batters being dismissed due to footmarks, he actually found they hardly made a difference and called them a myth. He hasn't made an individual video on it yet and has only talked about it in passing on his live chats.
My advice to all posters. Forget about the impending 0-4 series loss. Far superior Australian teams have also had their pants pulled down on the spinfestated pitches.
1969[ before sum of youse were born, and also didnt see Neil Armstrong walk on a bowlers moon pitch] 2004 They were the the last 2 series wins in India [ TDK to confirm]
So in 54 years just 2 series wins[ TDK to confirm] or a 3rd if we win this series, but it aint happening And in that period there were many superior Australian teams than Indian teams
The footmarks make it difficult to judge whether it's going to pitch on the good stuff.... potential attacking shot versus a bowler with good flight dropping it in or near them.....defence. Our blokes, other than Smith, don't judge the flight well at all. It goes to show that they don't face enough spin (coaching plans) when having a net.
Warnie bowling blokes around their legs out of the rough....Ah the memories!

From what I can see Mal you're right, they were the last two series wins Australia has had in India. 2004- 2-1 1969- 3-1 1959- 2-1 1956- 2-0
Draws in 1964 and 1986.
By the way, on the ABC Grandstand Podcast Ed Cowan said Australia have only ever beaten India once in Delhi (in 1959 by an innings and 127 runs). India have won three and there has been three draws.
Green to come back in for Handscomb or Renshaw. Kuhnemann to debut IMO
Who does Kuhnemann debut for it surely cannot be Murphy and surely wont be Lyon. We going with the one pacemen in Cummings or going with Cummins and Green.
Starc for Boland if fit, otherwise they'll go in unchanged.
How's AB calling for Murphy to be dropped for the extra paceman.
Renshaw Usman Labia Smith Head Handscomb Green Carey Cummins Lyon Murphy
That would be my XI if all fit. Would love to squeeze Kuhnemann in there for a point of difference but Murphy can't be spared after the first test and Lyon has too many credits in the bank to be omitted.
Unless our batters can improve dramatically it won’t matter what bowlers we pick. Play Head as an extra batter and bowl him instead of bringing in another spinner. Renshaw to make way for Head. IF Green is fully fit he comes in for Handscomb. Starc in for Boland too. Davey gets one more chance
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

The fact that there is still a cloud hovering over Green makes me want them to give him another game off, if he gets hurt and we only have Cummins we are going to get pantsed with bat and ball.

I agree with this, Green only picked if he can bowl allowing an extra spinner to be selected. Other quick to be Cummins but wouldn't be opposed to Starc playing over him if he was fully fit but hard to drop Cummins.
I'm not sold Green is in out best 6 bats on any type of surface so he needs to be bowling to be selected.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

He was still not 100% yesterday, and no, he isn't in our best 6 bats, all 3 disciplines rolled into one earns his selection.
