Root gets his hundred which makes it 3 in consecutive test matches. He's in career best form.

Root gets to his hundred in his 100th test match without much fuss, his 20th test match hundred and third in a row. He becomes the 9th test cricketer to score a hundred in their 100th test match.
England 2/227
Sibley 83 (250)
Great partnership between these two, the discipline has been impressive. They've clearly targeted old mate Denzel Sundar and left arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem to score most of their run off of.

Superb again by root. Sibley did a tremendous job also, he's far from pretty but we have become a much better side with him in it. Personally reckon we should bat into day 3 if we can, this pitch will be a road till day 4.

It was a great partnership to watch, they were in complete control and maybe the Australian openers should take a leaf out of Sibley's book and how he batted for such a long time showing great concentration and discipline.
England 3/263 from 89.3 overs at stumps
Sibley out for 87 from 286 and Root is 128*.

WTF are England batting on here, shouldve declared when they lost 2 in 2 at the very latest. Have hardly scored a run since, surely getting the curry munchers in for the last 10 overs after 2 days in the field would be far more beneficial

Joe Root at the end of play yesterday-
"We've got to look to try and get as many as we can - 600, 700 if we can, really try and make the most of the first innings while it's good," Root said. "Those footholes are starting to wear quite quickly. So, if we can bat the whole of tomorrow and maybe into day three, then things could speed up quite quickly for us and you never know what can happen from that point onwards.
That's why they're still batting.

Re: TDK's International Test Cricket Update's
Stats from Joe Roots 218-
Becomes the first player to score a double century in his 100th test (Therefore has the highest score in a 100th test too).
Root has gone from 8th to 3rd on the most test runs for England list, he now has 8467 runs going past Boycott, Pietersen, Gower and Stewart and is now 433 runs behind second placed Graham Gooch.
Root now has three double centuries as England captain, the next best is just one each to Cook, Dexter, Gooch, Gower, Hammond, Hutton and May.
Root now has 5 double centuries in test match cricket, Wally Hammond has 7 and Cook has 5 aswell.
He has 644 runs from his last three tests, the third highest amount of runs in three straight test for England. (Hammond 779 in 1928/29 and Gooch 763 in 1990).
Root now has the highest score by a visiting batsman in Chennai. (Previous best was 210 by Dean Jones)
Root is just the second test captain after Don Bradman to make scores of 150+ in three successive test matches.

So that was said at the end of day 1. Not like the English to be inflexable.
At 8 fa and no recognized batsman in with 10 overs to go surely you change tact and get them in, grab 1 or 2 wickets and India are under the pump
