This is such a personal decision.
One question I think you must be able to reconcile is, what affect will it have on your children, both good and bad, and therefore can you be comfortable with doing it?
I do not know what the answer would be for you as I do not know you personally.
I would be like Booney and unable to do it. My eldest son did it in a flash (mmmmm?) and loves it.

Yeah, I realise that, I know CM had done it and was hoping for some feedback on others that have.
I spoke to my kids about it last night, generally for the first 6 to 12 months work pays for you to fly home each fortnight for the weekend, my kids are getting older and they will benefit from the financial gains.
Unfortunately the only way to progress within my company is by relocating first, no one in good positions leave in Adelaide and all the upper management roles are taken by people of similar age to me so I'm seemingly stuck in the same role forever.

Sorry mate, I gave a bit of a piss take reply earlier...... Covid aside, the move to Melbourne has been a positive one for me. Sure I miss Adelaide, and we really miss our son who lives over there. Mrs C has settled very well, and found work, almost instantly. Miss C has nearly completed her Uni degree, and for her, there will be far more opportunities here in Melbourne. Actually discussing with the girls over the weekend about returning to SA at some stage in the future. They both said, no, we like it here......
Boon's point is well made, its about how you accept & adapt to change. Getting outside your comfort zone if you like.
For me working over here in my current role usually has lots of travel, which I enjoy. The Covid situation has put paid to that for now, what will be interesting is when we do finally come out of this thing...... what the new normal will be in my role.

I was born and raised in Adelaide. We visited Broken Hill and Sydney frequently in my childhood, but I had never considered leaving Adelaide permanently, or even for a few years, until I agreed to move to Melbourne indefinitely in January 1999 (at the age of 56) so that my then wife could support her then 30 year old single daughter from a previous marriage who had cancer. (She survived,)
There was a 6 month temporary relocation back to Adelaide in 2003-4 to sort out issues with my aging family here, but otherwise we lived in Melbourne until my wife died and I moved back to Adelaide in January 2009. Relocation to Melbourne was a bit stressful in the first year having to find my way around. After my wife's death I tossed up whether to sell the property in Olinda and move into a unit in Southbank or move back to Adelaide where I had family and old friends.
Since then, in my part time medical work, I have relocated for 2 or 3 months multiple times to places like Bunbury, Townsville, Perth, Northam, Lismore and Grafton.

Where are the trouble spots over there? (The violence we've been hearing about).

Dandenong, Frankston, I think inner west is just about all gentrified now. Not sure about broadmeadows, and other west/north areas. Pretty much whereever you'll be working you would want to live there ...
