Let’s say there was a national ban on public gatherings of, I dunno, let’s say 5-10 K. The SANFL games might fall under the criteria and could see a resurgence of interest as local AFL fans were starved of action...I’ve personally been sceptical of the media frenzy.. but when professional sports in Europe start to play in empty stadiums its probably time to take it a bit more serious.

Interesting thoughts, Hazy. Yes, if there is a 'floor' imposed on crowds and gatherings then, depending on the length of such a ban, it could translate into an increase in interest in the local product.

Interest in the digital pass, perhaps. All the local action without the exposure to virus vectors!

May in fact be the only way to watch the SANFL this season, so it is great value.
Oh, then again, all South and West matches should still be allowed to be played in front of supporters... no risk of a big crowd ;)
Probably the same for my beloved Doggies too! ;) 8)

The experts all say 'social distancing', which is about 6 feet of distance between you and others.

Impossible to run an AFL crowd that way, and no practical way that you could choose which 7,000 get in and which 43,000 are locked out, without causing a riot. You'd just have to lock out the whole crowd and be done with it.

But a normal SANFL home and away crowd? Made for it.

The whole time over the last 30 years, we thought that the powers that be were running down the SANFL and state leagues needlessly; in fact, they were setting them up for this moment. It's the SANFL's time to shine.

Players will be made to shove a small gym towel partway down the back of the shorts. Should an opposing player successfully snatch the towel whilst the ball is in possession, this will count as a tackle and HTB will be paid.

Notice in Victoria some Trial games are being cancelled, looks like at the behest of the AFL clubs.. Will the SANFL trials go ahead?

STATEMENT: VFL Practice Match # 3 vs. Casey Demons
The Port Melbourne Football Club wishes to advise of the cancellation of this Saturday’s VFL practice match against the Casey Demons, originally set down to take place at Casey Fields at 11:30am.

Following constant dialogue with both the Casey and Melbourne Football Clubs, the overriding decision has been made by Casey and Melbourne to cancel the match in response to the ongoing developments surrounding the coronavirus outbreak.

Under the circumstances, the Port Melbourne Football Club is supportive and understanding of this decision.

The Port Melbourne Football Club is continuing to monitor the latest medical advice and official reports from The Australian Government Department of Health, as well as implement strategies to ensure the safeguarding of health for players, coaches, staff, members and supporters.

So you're saying the virus will have no discernable effect on the competition?

I suspect the driving factor here is to protect AFL listed players. No such issue at the Ponderosa tomorrow

The big question is, will the coronavirus affect the attendance of the 4,000 Crows fans at SANFL games? ;)

Does that include parents of underage players playing league or ressies? Or U18's for that matter?

At least 1 parent should be allowed imo. I know if my lad was to get KO'd or break a leg I would want to be there.
