SA 2019 Draft Watch

Hi all, just curious on this year's draft talent. I will continue to to do a rolling Top 10, if anyone notes any potential feel free to comment. My opinion as watch closely each week.

SA Rolling Top 10
1. Josh Shute Sturt Outside Mid
2. Dylan Stephens Norwood Outside Mid
3. Cam Taheny Norwood Dangerous Forward
4. Jackson Mead WWT Inside Mid ( Port F/S).
5. Dyson Hilder North Key Defender
6. Kysaiah Pickett WWT Small Forward/Outside Mid
7. Lachlan McNeil WWT Inside Mid
8. Daniel Sladojevic South Key Fwd (Crows NGA).
9. Josh Morris WWT Dangerous Fwd
10. Will Gould Glenelg Rebounding Defender

FYI

SOUTH Australia has today announced its 36-player squad for next months’ National Under 18 Championships following the conclusion of two trial games against Western Australia over the weekend. The squad also includes six bottom-agers that are now able to be drafted until next year. Four over-agers – missed out on being drafted last year – have returned with Declan Carmody, Darnell Tucker, Lachlan Burrows and Angus Rana all named in the side.

Among the club representation, Woodville-West Torrens Eagles and Glenelg Tigers have the most with seven apiece, while Sturt has five representatives. Central District, South Adelaide and West Adelaide have four each, while North Adelaide has three players in the squad. Norwood has just the two players, but they are potential top 10 picks in Dylan Stephens and Cameron Taheny who will be ones to keep an eye on at the carnival. Other highly rated players at this point of the year include Woodville West Torrens’ Jackson Mead and Kysaiah Pickett, and Glenelg’s Will Gould. A couple of players to keep in mind for next year are Corey Durdin and Zac Dumesny as well as potential Adelaide father-son Luke Edwards.

I would of thought Schofield would be representing WA

At this age level you just play for the state you're living in, Not really a state of origin concept.
Think your top 10 are pretty much right except for some of the order (especially Gould)
Don't think SA will win this year and will be a better squad next year

My thoughts on Will Gould and why have dropped him down my Top 10 after watching last 2 weeks. Top 10 is rolling so can change weekly.

 His main weaknesses was his leg speed, lack of agility and height in role.
Very straight-lined and once the ball got past him was slow to recover or
pick up his opponent. Was saved a few times by his team mates.
 He wasn’t consistently clean with his ball handling.
 He showed only average jumping ability to compensate for his height for
negating in the aerial contests but showed he could use his body
effectively.
 Looked awkward in some ground level contests with lack of flexibility
and balance.

Is your top 10, likely draft order, order you rank their ability right now or how you think their career will pan out?. Leg speed is a concern for Gould but competitiveness and kicking ability is elite. Gould will only be challenged by stephens for impact at sanfl level this year.

Its a Top 10 as if I was a recruiter and who I believe will have the best career at AFL level. The more games I watch Gould he may move back up. I really like Dyson Hilder as Key defensive as a long term AFL prospect.

How many of these kids are playing above u18 level, would think they would need to be playing reserves at a minimum to be drafted

Sparrow and Tarca from South last year straight from the u 18s. Sparrow may have played a reserves game.

From South, Tucker has played league this year and Freitag and Sladojevic are in the reserves.

Taheny and Stephens have played League and Reserves for Norwood already.

This mid season draft has changed a bit . Many AFL clubs are taking it as a Rookie draft.

Only a dozen clubs eligible ATM isn’t there although I think the Suns have 2 spots
