I'm not so familiar with the AFL system, so excuse what might be an obvious question, have the clubs all been assigned their draft picks yet? Are the new clubs in GWS and the Suns still receiving concessions and preferences?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

yep, the draft order is set, and no, they arent recieving any concessions anymore.

GWS have had a bigger list in previous years but have to come back to a normal sizes list - hence why SOS has been raiding them last year and again this year

would have thought we would have said aside up to a milly for danger, but sloane and jenkins resigning afterwards would have taken a bit.

If they are available go for it, but don't stuff up a lot of good work over the last 2 years to get Gibbs and/or Rocky here. Wouldn't bother me if we didn't get Gibbs, be nice if we did though. 2 blokes ain't the missing piece to the Crows getting right up to Premiership contention it's the development of the 2nd and 3rd tier players that's critical to go to the next step.

Why dont the Crows just trade Jenkins for Gibbs, you'll then fit Rockliff in as well and it cures the horrible mistake you made when you signed him on the back of games against the minnows. His finals form is much more the standard of his output in game sthat matter. Carlton would jump at that, probably can save pick 13 for Rocky then

Josh did his ankle quite badly late in the season and wasn't the same player after that during the finals
Kicked 8 against premiers in WB during the year so not bad against a minnow
coming from a supporter whos club just signed Ty Vickery and trying to off load their BnF winner and runner up!

Why don't we go after this and next year's first picks for Gibbs? I know that doesn't solve our problems 'for the now' but it will help us next year.

Because Adelaide would not give two first rd picks for a guy with 2-3 years of good footy left
This deal should just be shelved. Clearly Carlton want too much and Adelaide would be offering market value for him which should be no more than pick 13.

Bingo. Yep there it is, you want they want or its done. You were never going to get him from Carlton for only market value. Hes contracted.

Yes he's contracted but he clearly doesn't want to be there anymore, what value does he have at Carlton moping around for 3 years?
Adelaide, while needing a quality mid, will play this to the deadline IMO. Pick 13 or GTFO.

Who said he would be moping around?
Carlton have all the power in this one, will probably take this years first and next years with maybe a later pick coming back to the Crows. That's pretty fair and reasonable for a contracted player. If he was in his last year then pick 13 would be enough for him

I posed it because obviously no player wants to come to Carlton.

Carlton clearly want depth. They would achieve that by securing a pick and a player. Anything less would be a failure in their eyes.

If it doesn't happen then we might have to look at a three way deal with Port.

BTW he could play for another 5 years easily.

He wants to go home. His missus wants to go home. Carlton offered him all sorts of support to stay and he still wants to leave.
You think he'll be happy staying?
Absolutely no chance we will give two first rounders for him.
Scrap the deal and move on.
Port can't fit him in the cap and have already said they don't want him,

Well actually he or his management said he would like a move home and preferably to Adelaide if a suitable trade can be arranged.

It is clear from both parties a suitable trade can not be arranged.

Who blinks first. Well its not Carlton because they wont even give you the time day at the moment.

Still 4.5 days of trade period to go, not unusual.

Maybe it will happen in the end maybe not. But I would suggest at least trying to get them in the same room as Adelaide may be a start.

Also depends what the GWS want for there boys looking to get to Carlton.

Every club plays hard ball during the first few days of the trade period where there are big names being thrown around, it's like giving up Piccadilly and Old Kent Road to get Bond Street, you don't wanna do it but you'll have to in the end.

You missed my point. I said a three way deal with Port (to get the deal done) not TO Port. That would possibly get us a pick and a port player which would solve the issue.

I haven't worked thru how it would work but it could get done via that way.
