You'd think a reasonable amount hinges on the availability of Brown, Smith, Cheney, Seedsman and Lowden.

If all come up the Ravens could field a 20 AFL listed squad, if all four/five miss it could be one of the weaker sides they put up over the course of the year

Guess South won't have a clue if they are against it or not until they exchange the team sheets....

Panthers can win this, is it however somewhat dependent on the who's who in the opposition  .

Yep, hope the Panthers can get over the line.

Latest I am hearing is that Smith is fine and will play in the AFL and that Brown and Cheney trained. Unsure re Seedsman, injury is clearly either worse than first thought or worse than first reported. Hopefully with the extra week Lowden will come up. Side should be strong. South are getting injuries at the wrong end of the season.

Adelaide for me, I'll say around 5 goals.

I really hate to see this happen, but with the talk of injuries I cannot see South winning this one.
Probably the second saddest day in SA football history so far, with the merging of W & WT being the saddest. With all the improvement South have achieved, given their history over the past 50 odd years, surely the fantastic season the Panthers have had so far deserves a better finish than going down to an AFL practice squad, who in all their protestations of innocence, would rather a good workout for their AFL hopefuls than actually winning it.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

And they do happen to win, it'll be in front of a core of deserving die-hard Panthers fans (great) and a handful (that's a small child's hand with stubby fingers, by the way) of Crows fans who can be bothered turning up, having already celebrated after beating the 'Roos or sulking after being unceremoniously dumped into mothballs. If they didn't come against Centrals with no game on that week, then they're sure as s**t not going to rock up the morning after.

So it'll be a disappointing day, either way.

Either way win or lose we are stuck with the Crows and Power in season 2017.
A loss for the whole competition including attendances and club memberships.
I get a feeling we will get another 4 byes too,a whole month with no footy again.
Such is life in the SANFL these days.

If Cows beat Nth Melbourne - Ravens by 6 to 10 goals
If Roos win - South comfortably

I can guess why all the byes this year because of these reasons:

18 rounds a season, (so it's 'fair')
AFL clubs don't want the season to end after the AFL GF, but the week before, so they get match practise up until the PF weekend potentially
Some SANFL clubs want Good Friday matches

Thereby leaves a shortfall of weeks...next year, Easter is 3 weeks later than this year, so less byes come next year. Rather than one or none at all with 20 matches in a season because it's not 'fair'. I put fair in quotation marks, because it's a lottery every time you come up against the AFL sides.

So rumour now has it 3 byes in 2017 plus one?
Hopefully not with another bye for the state game, that would make 4 to me.
Call them what you like but 4 Saturday's without footy,
Effectively a whole month of no footy, a bad business model to me.
To me 10 teams = 5 games a week,
so why more than just 1 bye for a token state game?
if they must have one.
Declining attendances and memberships will roll on and on.
As Einstein said,
insanity,
'doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result'.
Good old SANFL more of the same into 2017 perhaps,
gee I hope not!

That's right Vale Park.
Apparently all those years of SANFL prior to 1991 where attendances were at their peak, the programming had been done wrong. 22 Rounds in a ten team comp? Maybe they were getting sell outs 3 times a year at Alberton, Glenelg, Norwood and Unley and sometimes Prospect, but internet hits were down! Obviously 18 rounds with 4 byes interspersed between them would encourage people to get online and off the terraces! I hear some are actually taking up new hobbies because of the discontinuity of SANFL footy during the footy season! I think the contribution of this new style of fixture toward Lacrosse, Knitting and Scrabble is vastly underestimated, and it is with great justification that the West Croydon Cribbage Club is going to honour the SANFL with a special naming of a chair at the adult cribbage table, in recognition of the increase in participants owing to the SANFL fixture.
Pah! What did those dinosaurs in the glory years know about boosting Cribbage, Line dancing and Boxercise?
