Round 4- Central v South (Saturday @ Elizabeth)

Post by saintal »

I guess somebody better start a match-thread. The Integrity Cup is again up for grabs as South make the trek north. Good to see Rose named, very underrated defender. Can South extend it's unbeaten run at Elizabeth to 3 games, or will the Dogs win yet another battle between the two clubs? $2000 is up for grabs should the crowd exceed 2400 apparently.

2,400 looks a long way off. Only 1,342 for last season's corresponding match. Granted it was on TV, but the last time Elizabeth attracted more than 2,400 for a Centrals-South clash was Round 3, 2011 and that was on ABCTV too.

Minus Rolfe, that's about as good as our line up will get. If we want to be taken seriously this season, these are the games we need to be winning. Been a solid start, but our opposition the last two weeks have been poor. Get one of our better defenders back and our back six looks real, real good.

Centrals looked a million bucks last week for 35 minutes, then Sturt's pressure lifted, the Dogs handballing increased, and the Double Blues ran all over them while doing their best to try and lose at the same time. Our tackling pressure has been brilliant to start the season so hopefully we can keep that up.

South by 10, would have preferred the Dogs won last week as they'll no doubt come out more fired up with a point to prove.

I can't imagine we will get choked to a point where we're handball happy this week.
On the bigger oval, I suspect our confidence in our structures will return.
It will be a close game. Hard to tip though, so I'm going with us - based on home ground.

And...my cousin's kid is running out as mascot this week. Pretty exciting for him, probably more exciting for my cousin ;)

Looking forward to this clash. South as good as anyone going around at the minute but expecting the Dogs to come out firing after last weeks disappointment. Restricting Eddy will be crucial - and will Templeton reproduce something similar to his trial game effort against the Panthers a few weeks ago?

Im venturing out to the Ponderosa tomorrow , and looking forward to a good game.
I note that Matt Rose has been included but Id be surprised if he doesnt have a run in the 2s, hes missed a bit of footy. South have been using 8-10 players rotating through the midfield under the new restrictions and I expect Bass and Haren to get them first use most of the time. No longer is South relying on Eddy to kick a big score, Haren ,Overall and "Alfie" Hitchcock are providing targets as well and kicking goals too.
it wont be easy, the Dogs grow another leg when at home and my goodness we've had some dreadful days out there in the past. The disastrous draw there last year proved so costly and saw us miss out on finals action to the Dogs only on percentage.
With that in mind Im tipping the Panthers by 22 points.

Heck, I'd forgotten the importance of the two games against you guys last year.
A draw and a heartstopper at Noarlunga.

South $1.30 Centrals $3.40

Form an orderly queue Dogs supporters- they are very generous odds considering the venue.

By the way, that's not to suggest South can't win or shouldn't be favourites - just think it's a closer affair than those odds suggest. But as Wedgie correctly pointed out - theoretically it's only reflecting who the money is being wagered on.

Centrals at home could reward those Doggie fans who like a punt.
Bulldogs by 10-15 points.

Real tough game to pick, and the match of the round for mine. If Eddy can get on the end of it then I'd say the Panthers, but only just because it's out there's at the Ponderosa. Hopefully there's a good crowd in attendance.

Yeah, reckon we'll see an improved performance this week by the 'Dogs against an in-form opponent.

Trav Schiller out with illness is the word on the CDFC forum. Fraser Fort will have his work cut out for him down back if the Panthers get on top in the mid-field.

'Dogs by 11 to 20.

Goal Kickers: S. Overall 4, B. Eddy 3, A. Gulden 2, B. Seccull 2, N. Liddle, J. Cross, M. Rankine, E. Irra, D. Bass, R. Barnes
Best Players: S. Overall, B. Seccull, N. Schwarz, J. Veide, T. Fields, N. Liddle

Another very solid win. Started well, terrible second term (Dogs really lifted), but put the foot down after half time to run out fairly convincing winners.

Overall has had a promising start to the year after 2015 was a real let-down.

Umpires extremely whistle-happy (again).

South won the ressies by 89 points with ex-tiger Trembath kicking 7. Would be quite a while since a South's reserves team won a game by a margin of that degree.

Very impressive win. Despite the pre-match odds this one was never a 'lay down misere'. When you're up against a club on its home ground which has laid waste to you there many times in recent years there's always a chance of getting the yips.

For the 'dogs, (a 'copy 'n' paste of my CDFC Forum post) Hoskin effective up forward with three goals. and never stopped putting in. Barmby, tough as nails and well focussed, and Darcy Fort a good game and will improve as a ruckman with time. Holman an improved performance from last week, like a few others. Certainly missed Travis Schiller.

Our lads certainly not as "handball happy" as the Sturt game....
... and due acknowledgement to 'northerner ' on the CDFC forum last Sunday evening for the recent vogue on that one... :D

South certainly appear to have some clout up forward. I'm sure Irra's one man run and goal from (I think, happy to be corrected) backward of centre in the last will keep Southies smiling for a while.

62 frees for the game. Must be some sort of record surely?
