The Recruit
Surprised i couldnt find another thread, but there is a new reality TV show out called the recruit, on foxtel. Hosted by fitzy, they are all older players, over 20 years of age and havent been playing second tier footy in the past two years.
You can watch the first episode here.

First impressions were great, the show did a pretty decent job at trying to tell the stories of a few players. Especially Waylan Mansen, who I know there was huge buzz around but just how hard it would be for him to fit in will be interesting going forward.

Re: The Recruit
Having seen these guys play, they were being toweled up by the U/18s playing for the magpies and the crows fill in players in a game played at the Adelaide Oval after the Adelaide v GC game a few weeks back.
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run

Re: The Recruit
Watched it last night and the big volleyballer looks the early chance to win it already - so much to work with and can see him fitting in as a ruck in most sides

How many players were there on each side in this game do you know? the recruit only has the 13 players?

Re: The Recruit
The next big thing, Wagner I think his name is, the one dominating for Centrals, he's on the show, yes?

Johann? He got through - looked liked he was wearing a Roosters guernsey though?

His original team is the Tasman Football Club Port Lincoln. They are the Roosters.

Re: The Recruit
Followed the exact some 'running sheet'
as the soccer superstar franchise including at the end of the episode where the two players were called forward and told only one would go through for both to go through.
It was that identical that in the first episode of the soccer superstar it was a 'injury cloud' player and another who both got through at the end the exact same as episode 1 here

Re: The Recruit
I did think that was a bit silly, especially when the johncock lad smashed all of the fitness stuff and was young. No way was he going to miss out unless he was out of action for weeks.
The did seem to laugh at him a lot and call him a squealing pig though haha.

Seemed to be a bit cocky to me. Almost good to see him cut down during the game.
Enjoyed the first episode. Big Volleyballer showed a bit.

Re: The Recruit
Quite a few seemed cocky. Guess they were all big fish in little ponds before.
Waylan was very likeable imo. Quite funny when he was saying he would always just go and try to take hangers in front of the chicks haha.
Really hope he makes it.

Yeah they do seem to be cocky but having known a few people who have been on reality tv shows including amazing race and currently one in the X factor they are definatly told to play a role or character

One of the guys in the show just started playing for Kapunda on the weekend, so I've been told.
Tore Tanunda apart, by all accounts.

I was hypnotised on stage once. The hypnotist said, "when you go under, you won't do anything you wouldn't normally do".
I suspect, when reality tv shows pick character roles for people on their show, they are picking up on that person's personality and those people wouldn't do something that wasn't in their nature.

Re: The Recruit
just watched the second episode, have to say im really loving the show.
im glad that waylan and bradie stayed, they are probably the two best footballers in the group, and i think the other lads felt threatened by that.
really hoping waylan can stop his homesickness, he looks like he really could be an afl footballer. really needs someone like eddie betts or some other senior aboriginal footballer to take him under his wing etc.
i kinda like that it is more about reality tv than footy, i think it broaden's its appeal a little bit and makes it more entertaining. if it was just a draft camp i could have switched off by now

Re: The Recruit
Love this show!
Wagner is the best by far. The Jackle and Goss are very good players, but love to see Waylen win this.
Maybe right some wrongs Liam Jarrah has made.
