it is an interesting question, and im sure even in local sport (footy, cricket, whatever) most of us would know of that guy that was unfit, didnt give a shit about training, but yet came out out on saturday and performed.
the problem is it creates a double standard, whereby cossie is held to a different standard to others. also means when he isnt scoring runs, the spotlight is immediately shone on him.
so if you are scoring runs, everything is fine, but questions get asked when you dont. and by "not scoring runs" i also mean averaging 40, when you should be averaging 50

Funny thing is when Mark was last involved with the SACA setup he performed within the set fitness parameters set by team management.... The double standard was set by the media who wanted him to be cut like Mitchell Johnson!

He doesn't look that out of shape in person, he's a solid lad, always has been.

Amazing to think its only taken 12 hours for everyone on here to really only talk about his weight, KFC, Hungry Jacks etc. The bloke is a quality cricketer (and bloke for that matter), these types of comments are ridiculous and are unrequired. Lets just let him score his runs and not snipe him when he isnt scoring runs because apparently he is overweight. Thrived down in Tasmania and at Glamorgan and at club level when the coaches told him runs are what you get picked on. He is no hack recruit like some of SACA's in the past, lets embrace him back in SA cricket and get around a home grown product in the SACA sides.

we are all pretty happy to have him back. i doubt there is anyone that thinks he shouldnt be back in our side.

Should never have left our side, welcome back Cossie
Hitting boundaries is one thing, but if he constantly turns his partners easy 3's into risky 2's, and his owns scores are lower due to the fact he cant get up the other end then he is not worth picking. He better hold every catch that comes his way to because he's a liability in the field.

The West End Redbacks have significantly bolstered their batting stocks for the 2014-15 season, signing experienced left-hander Mark Cosgrove.
After spending four years with the Tasmanian Tigers, Cosgrove is returning home and will be a welcome addition to the West End Redbacks squad. With a batting average of 42.47, Cosgrove will add fire power to an already dangerous batting line up including Australian Test hopeful Phil Hughes and all-rounder Andrew McDonald.
“With Tom Cooper, Callum Ferguson and Phil Hughes all enjoying stellar seasons with the bat, it is exciting to add another experienced head to the mix,” said SACA General Manager High Performance, Jamie Cox.
Cosgrove has enjoyed success during his time in Tasmania, winning two Bupa Sheffield Shield titles. Returning to Adelaide to be closer to family and friends, Cosgrove is determined to win another Shield title with his home state.
“He has been part of a very successful team at the Tigers over the last few years. After falling agonisingly short in the Bupa Sheffield Shield last year, it is hoped that he can bring some of that experience to the West End Redbacks,” said Cox.
Cosgrove joins key players Callum Ferguson, Kane Richardson, Tom Cooper and Tim Ludeman, who have also committed to multi-year deals, while captain Johan Botha has signed for one more season.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Having said that he can bat when conditions suit.
he is a great gully field. not sure where you got the notion that he is a liability

If it goes straight to him...yes, he can catch. But couldnt run out of sight, down hill, on a dark night. Hence the liability.
