We both know which Victorian clubs have probably been the biggest financial drain on the AFL in recent times and yet, when presented with an option of finding new markets and the POTENTIAL to solve their financial problems, prefer to stay in Melbourne and continue to take money off the other clubs .... The extra $6.7m (minimum) going to the Bulldogs and the Roos is money that could have gone to grass-roots football.

fair dinkum if the Roos and Bullies didnt exist they would have that money to give them anyway

Brisbane and Sydney are the only teams to have received on-field assistance from the AFL...big difference

I am not sure about your theory there about the funding if they didn't exist but I agree the assistance the Bulldogs & Roos are getting is not the same as what Sydney & Brisbane got.

I also agree with you & Eddie that the AFL created a couple of power-houses by tinkering with the natural order of things 5-10 years ago. Just trying to make sure people realise Victorian clubs are already getting SOME $ assistance because this current debate often forgets that.

Eddie's point .... if it was wrong to do it before why do it again? 2 wrongs don't make a right and who'd want to see the Kangaroos have another dynasty

Well, Brad Cooper was one of Eddie's mates at the time

I think comparing the assistance givem to Brisbane and Sydney with that of the Melbourne clubs is misleading.

Getting sustainable clubs in the Northern states was a business strategy so that the AFL could call itself a national competition. This was an investment that has paid off hansomely by way of TY rights.

Propping up Melbourne clubs that have been in existance for many years and are established in a saturated market is foolish. I would only give them assistance to achieve a plan to relocate to one of the remaining unfilled markets.
We used to be good :-(

The panicky gits should be ready to stand down. Currently there is only one non-Vic club that's looking any good on field at the moment. Even the Kangas are doing OK.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
