How many times did Gary Lyon get called an ape in comparison to Adam Goodes? Something that might be amusing once or twice might wear thin after three decades.
The great Viv Richards summed it up best 'when you are black you never truly know what is in a man's heart'. Goodsey would feel the same when Eddie told all of Melbourne his promotional ideas a few days after being the 'voice of reason' on this issue on behalf of the Collingwood Football Club.

Jason Dunstall gets called an ape all the time, or the chief, or king of the jungle etc etc. It is because he looks a bit like an ape

The AFL have mooted an "indigenous only" TAC cup club forming next season and are contemplating the All Stars being sent to Ireland, being indigenous only.
I'm sure they wouldnt consider either of these if there wasn't great benefit involved, but it just seems to me that the best way to put the lid on racism, is to stop highlighting the differences in people that are essentially all Aussies. By all means celebrate all various cultures at appropriate times.
Hope I've chosen my words well enough, appreciate the sensitivity of the topic.

The problem is that people who are amongst the comfortable majority are starting up the bogus concept of reverse discrimination. I've been shot down on Facebook by bringing up the fact that indigenous Australians have a much higher illiteracy, infant mortality, unemployment and inceration rate than their fellow Australians. Is not being able to play in a football game a small price to pay for these small gestures. I was even told 'what does that have to do with it REB'.
Plenty.

"They can call me a ranga but how come I can't call him a black c*nt? That's no fair."
Not that, of course, I've ever seen a red headed person left to last for service, or spat on for their hair colour, or not employed, unable to vote, or to go right back to the crux of this argument had most of their race wiped out.
When redheads have had that experience, please bring that up in this debate.
Sure, if you wish to bring up the 'ranga' card, or the 'fat' card, stop using those terms to slight people yourself. Bet you don't, though.

Is Eddie's comment racist or is he just making light of an incident that happened a few days earlier? I think the latter.
Were the girls comments racist? If she doesn't mean for them to have any racial meaning but they cause offence to Goodes is it racist? Is she negligent or reckless in tribunal parlance? Is she too young to know better?
I think discriminating against people based on race is poor form, but this outcry at the moment is a bit over the top. Is all the humiliation suffered by the girl and Eddie proportionate to the crime? I don't think it is.
The idea that racism only exists in the morally corrupt reinforces the casual attitude to racism - discretion evades the speaker, as it so clearly did with Ed.
Racism exists beyond invective. In fact, it is cloaked in painting the racist as the victim and the target as inflexible.
