FREE TICKETS FOR COUNTRY FOOTY CLUBS
The football team representing Country South Australia against City at AAMI Stadium this Saturday (April 23rd) should have plenty of support, with hundreds of FREE tickets distributed to local clubs.
The Port Adelaide Football Club, SANFL and AFL have joined together to provide 20 complimentary admission tickets to each of 190 SANFL-affiliated clubs across the State. It is up to local clubs to decide how they share the tickets among their players, members and supporters.
The highly-anticipated Motor Accident Commission-MAC City-Country clash follows the AFL Round 5 Port Adelaide-Gold Coast Suns contest, with the Power hosting the league’s newest team.
The tickets provide free entry for both games, along with a curtain-raiser between an Australian Defence Force team and a side representing Australia’s Combined Emergency Services.
Port Adelaide Football Club Chief Executive, Mark Haysman, said the Easter Saturday line-up represents a feast of football, especially for country people.
“With the long weekend providing an opportunity to travel, we thought it was a chance to give something back to people in country communities. We hope the offer of free tickets prompts people to make the trip to Adelaide to see the best footballers from country clubs take on the best from the city, as well as sample the thrills of the AFL contest,” Mr Haysman said.
“We are grateful for the support of the SANFL and the AFL in being able to deliver this initiative. It’s nice to be able to reward country clubs for the vital role they play in the development of community football.”
This year, the AFL Easter weekend round has added significance, as it coincides with ANZAC Day. Saturday’s contest will feature an ANZAC Day Observance Ceremony immediately before the AFL game. For the eighth year, the Peter Badcoe VC medal will be presented to the player who best exemplifies the Anzac spirit through skill, courage in adversity, self-sacrifice, teamwork and fair play.
Game times at AAMI Stadium on Saturday are:
11.45am Australian Defence Force v Aust Combined Emergency Services
2.45pm Port Adelaide v Gold Coast Suns
5.35pm Motor Accident Commission-MAC Cup State Country v City Amateur League
