I had the 'privilige' of being at Pecker Park yesterday to watch this game, and it was hardly one for the archives. The Eagles, although not convincing, appeared to be in control through out the game, but West never gave up to there credit, even when 5 goals down half way through the last, they rallied again, and had Flash been pinged for holding the ball, wouldve been within a goal with 4 minutes to play. Eagles probably deserved the result, and the scoreboard rightly reflected the days play.
West, although they had no ruckman, look like they can match it with the big boys this year, even though I have my doubts they will play finals, in fact I have no doubt, they wont play finals, but will give some top sides a scare, as they did to North in round 1, and have done to the Eagles and Centrals in recent weeks. There defence is very solid, Chubb and Silvester done brilliant jobs yesterday (i thought), and forced Godden to push Welsh up the ground to get his kicks. Chubb get Salter quiet all day until a late flurry saw him get on the scorecard. Ezard and Rowe are quality midfielders, with service from Lobbe when he returns, they will be dangerous.
Eagles, well they were scrappy all day, Jarrad and Lewis were good, although it is a constant source of frustration that Jarrad, the most natural wingman the SANFL has to offer, is being played across half back more this year, Godden, get him on the wing where he belongs please. Welsh, well, im not convinced on him yet, and I might be a little critical here, but I still wasnt impressed yesterday, although a few on here seem too be. We recruited him to kick goals, not too sit across half back, or play as a decoy, but too kick goals, and he hasnt looked like doing that this year. Miles and Parry will hopefully form a solid ruck pairing, because I am not sold on Guilhaus yet, despite his good game yesterday, I think he needs to learn his game more in the two's, with Hoban.
Overall though, take the 2 points, and look too North this week, and try and stop there potent forward line from kicking a match winning score
