Interesting first game in the Bernardi - Pyne Cup

Iggies got out to a commanding lead in the first quarter - 0.2 - 4.5 (IIRC but dont hang me on it)
Half time: 1.4 - 4.6
3/4 time: 5.6 - 7.10
Full time: 9.9 - 8.11

Iggies kicked a goal right on the siren at 3/4 time
PAOC kicked a goal right on the siren at full time to win

Big Stephen White was given a rest and has an appointment on Wednesday night - so we cant say much about it. He did look slightly amused with it though - not sure his coach was.

Brodie Atkinson may have lost some pace but he still finds the ball - will worry a few with the small forward role - still has the old talent

Unfortunately, have to agree with the comment about confusing umpiring decisions

Surely if a bloke takes the ball, runs, takes on an opponent and tries to break through a tackle, if he gets his arms pinned - it should still be holding the ball?

Plus this free kick for hitting of arms when forwards go for a mark. Saw one yesterday - the FB punched the ball then his arm collected the FF's arms - free kick FFS

But, on the other hand, it was their first match as well

It was a physical game, especially early. Seaton were definately cleaner with their skills, and had the better of us at most stoppages. Losing our CHF for the whole game just before halftime (because of his own stupidity  ) didnt help our cause either. Wanders was easily the best player on the ground, Coardy was also good off half back and that geriatric Marshall can still get a bit of it too ! His treatment of Portland's runner needs to be seriously looked at though ;)
I thought Laslett was very good for us, as was Birdy. Perkins battled his bum off all day too.
Not a disastrous start for us, but still showed we need to improve in a few areas. I think we have the basics of a reasonable side though. As for Seaton, they look strong, good mix of older blokes and a few kids. Its early days i know, but would think they will be around the mark.
Crowd was good too, plenty of good natured sledging and banter going on. And a fair few cans being consumed as well ! Look forward to the return bout in round 10 at the Thunderdome !

Just saw your team sheet and where is Bascombe and D. Frank? It thought waring was injured and he played. was he ok. saw he kicked a couple so must have been reasonable

Bascombe back at Virginia - both parties agreed to part ways. Dylan Frank was short of a run and played ressies, as did Hamilton, Hinsley and Williams. Cahill maybe a week or 2 away also.
I will let Piccachu comment on Wareing's performance... ;)

Went n watched cbcoc v para hills. After watching shocking skills by the b graders,it was a cracking finish with cbcoc kicking the last 2 goals to steal the win that they should have had sewn up before half time... The a grade game well it was all over after ten minutes with cbcoc being 6 3 39 to 0 0 0.. Big coung phan, puccini and the onballers really dominated the game. Was a great win by CBC.

i wish that was the case top end. he was extremly ordinary at best and did some stupid things at stupid times.

all credit to seaton on ballers just had the touch of class that was needed, wanders degabriele and marshal all were just much cleaner by hand then us and having big patruno up forward is a decent target to aim at.

The serial pest runner needs to have a good hard look at himself!! Agree with the comments stated a really hard physical contest marred by some very over umpired decisions. Going to have that problem when two young guys who have been umpiring SANFL Under 18's come and umpire Amateur league games. Lot more contested footy that these umpires need adapt to, perhaps the powers at be need to let them know this. Great to see lots of Portland people hang around for a beer and a chat after the game.

Have To agree with Newman about the serial pest runner. I remember a game last year where all the runner wanted to do was to come out and abuse opposition players rather than deliver his message and get off the ground. Its just funny how there are two issues now and the same runner is involved, you do the maths and work out who the problem is. Im sure there are more people who can back this up too!!!!!!!

The A grade had a female umpire in the CBC V PH game and before a ball up she's said very politely "Eyes up boys, eyes up".

But in all honesty thought the umps in the A grade and B grade were good. Obviously a couple of decisions i didnt agree with but u can understand that.

Heard you boys were very, very impressive Flipper...

4 big lads playing for you dominated the aerial contests and set you up in the first quarter? Or have I been mis-informed?

Just out of interest Flipper, how many of your A grade players are old Schollars?

It was a good performance from the lads. We got a really good group and things just click between all the lads, very close on and off the field.

We would have 10 or so old schollars in the A grade and 16+ in the B grade. We have a really strong connection with Port Augusta and its private school Caritas College. So we get a few boys from that area as well.

But we like to consider ourselves open to everyone. Doesnt make a difference at the selection table where u come from as long as you take pride in the name and the colours.

What Possie is Coung Phan playing, played Juniors with him at North Pines then at Port Adelaide. Was a good Ruckman then Center Half Forward, but being Asian we thought he would eventually stop growing!
