So who out of Central and Glenelg misses the 3 then.

That's a shame for the young lad, he was very good for you guys last week against Sturt and has had his fair share of injury concerns in recent seasons...

Funny, that was one of your real strengths under McGowan your discipline to set up for the kick in and your other stuctures.

Is it the defensive structure that isn't there or are the players being lazy/selfish to the defensive side of the game and not adhering to the structure in place.

Wouldn't say selfish, will definitely say lazy though. That's what it looks like to me anyway.

Did the umpiring contribute to the result today
Possibly from what I saw

Umpires sometimes try and assert thier authority on the game
They did today
Early on NA kicked a goal and then recieved another free in front of goal for an infringement b4 the ball went back to the centre bounce up
From memory it was NA first 2 goals of the game
Fair enough it was there, but sometimes the umps let it go

QUESTION
Why dosent a NA player get the next kick from the middle instead of in front of goal ?

Some Umpires dont like paying free kicks in a close game in the last quarters
And they didnt today
With a minute to go Chambers on the lead was spoiled, the defender crashed into him and impeded Chambers, it looked a certain free kick
But not paid
The crowd was boisterous
Chambers by all probabilty would have kicked a goal
That would have made ST about 3 points down with a minute to go

QUESTION
Why dont umpires pay obvious frees in the last qtr, when they would have for the first 3 qtrs ?

As 4 the game
Could have gone either way, and NA were in front when it counted
At 3/4 time NA looked gone so it was a good effort to win

gill kicked at goal a minute before the siren and they had the momentum...we cam back and took the lead in the last qtr but somehow north got back the flow of play and kicked a few clear, then sturt clawed back to make it 2 kicks and missed a few shots on goal...

I tuned in at around the beginning of the second quarter owing to work.
The signs didn't sound too good early. We'd get within range and then North would kick away.
More importantly, we'd screw up our chances to go ahead. My impression was that we had our chances to win it, but would hand the ascendency back to North, who ran with it. They lead almost all day and ran out deserving winners by the sounds.
Alleyway had his name on a continual loop at RPH, every few seconds or so he was doing something, must have had a big game.
Had my first experience hearing the "Roosters" chant today. They put out a really cool "oo" sound with a lot of "oomph"! I am not sure how they look when they do it, but I couldn't help an image in my head of them flapping their arms like the people in the "Chicken Tonight" ad all those years ago. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just think they should know that's how it sounds.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I'd say because the free is taken where the infringement happened ... but if it happened in the backline, it would be taken from the centre .... down-the-ground principle like when a player is dropped after disposal.

Have not seen Allers move so quickly as I did in the last Q when he motored from CHF to help in defence, and as he came in took a strong mark. Awesome stuff considering he rucked a good part of the day, followed the play, and still had juice in the tank.

Law 12.4 covers that Mal

If there is an infringement against the attacking team after the ball has crossed the goal, behind or boundary line but BEFORE the field umpire has called all clear the goal umpire shall signal and record the score and the attacking player shall take another free kick at where the infringement occured or where the ball went out of play whichever is of greater penalty against the infringing team (12.4.1)

If the infringement occurs AFTER the field umpire has signalled all clear the free kick shall be taken with the "mark" in the centre circle except in the circumstance of Law 13.5 (officials in the 50 m arc at the kick in) (12.4.2)

I know a few SANFL umpires read this site, gentlemen if my comprehesion of the Laws is incorrect please inform the erudite Mal of the correct interpretation.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yep the law is what the players gotta abide by, still think its harsh though

Been informed by a studious NA barracker that Chambers staged the non free kick
I was on the outer centre wing and it appeared a free kick
Anyone else see it ?

Speaking to a Centrals fan after the game who said that was the most over umpired game of SANFL he has seen in a long time - in which I agreed.

He also added that we didnt seem to be working well together at this stage - which I also agreed.

Good luck to the cocks as they responded well from the week before.

Yep right in front of us and it was there.

I actually was sitting with a rooster fan who confirmed that the Blues were very unlucky with that decision.

I said the same thing at least 4 or 5 times, also said the same thing a number of times when the frees went the other way, over umpiring took away from what could otherwise have been a very entertaining game.

As nobody's mentioned it, I'm beginning to think it's just my imagination, but it appeared to me that ultra-defensive coaching by Healy in the first half of the third quarter brought Sturt right back into the game. Why you'd stack your backlines with a 19-point 1/2 time lead is beyond me, but it looked like North reverted to a more normal structure after Sturt caught up. Could a North supporter please tell me I'm wrong or is Healy 'too AFL' in his thinking?
