That is an interesting idea, perhaps being Easter with the usual concerns about the Road Toll, the SANFL could make the entire round an Alcohol Free one?

If they are the options, leave it as is. Why punish the people that DO THE RIGHT THING.

All an alcohol free round would do is turn into a how to sneak your alcohol into SANFL grounds round.

Here we go again. Trust me, anyone could of suggested what you and sojourner have, and I would comment the same. Little bit precious aren't we bayman.

Lucky we live in a society where we have the right to choose what we do and don't do at places like the football.

LOL @ bayman having any influence on the SANFL decision making.

Wouldent you like a nice cold cup of South Australian made Bickfords Cordial while you watch the football game from the hill at Adelaide Oval? I am pretty sure they even make Portello Flavour these days.

Guys why argue over booze .the topic was footy on good friday .
I think we have made a point there are some posters who must drink to enjoy footy games they attend and others who don't need to drink !

But will we ever see SANFL footy on good friday !!
And next Easter Anzac day falls on Easter Monday does that raise any issues ?

Have you? My argument is that everyone has the right to choose. So what if some posters have a couple of beers at the footy.

Easter Monday doesn't have the same restrictions. And the only issue next year is, do I still get 2 days off for EM/ANZAC day?

in my opinion it's all well and good that those who do hold those beliefs partake in whatever the day means, but why should those who don't evectivley be forced to?
Nobody is saying anyone has to watch the footy, but those who have no issue with it being played should be able to have the option.
I think it's rather ridiculous that in this day and age, a religion can dictate what everyone can and can't do on a certain day, regardless of weather people belong to, or beleive in that religion.

sam, it isn't the religons that dictate this otherwise there wouldn't be any sport whatsoever on & we know the super14s & the rugby league among others are to be played on good friday......

whatabout if some players didn't want to play because of their beliefs, where would that leave us ?

So would the SANFL and afl not play matches on a day that was significant to Muslims in case some players don't want to play on that day because of their beliefs?

The above is possibly the most surreal thing I have ever seen written on This August Forum. Take a bow bayman!

Incidentally - is there anything which prohibits Xians from partaking on booze or sport on Good Friday? Is it written somewhere that this day must be a day of rest? I recovered from catholicism about 16 years ago and my memory of the catholic dogma is admittedly not good, but I thought that since Vatican II the only thing different about Good Friday was that you had to abstain from red meat?

nuggety goodness, you're the resident religious expert here, what's the current rule?
