I think the ad is a joke...i already think Motlops a selfish player who would rather kick goal of the year than do the right thing by his teammates...and now they're all PRETENDING they can kick goals from the Alberton grandstands...

not helping their image in my opinion...

So what's the problem hacky? The Power haven't lost at Alberton yet so they must be on a winner.

Yeah they have...coz on the bottom of the screen under "Live The Creed" it says "Since 1870"...so I assume they took on all of the Port Magpies losses as well as the wins...right?

I thought that they had dropped the Port Creed line for membership raising.
won't get any new members IMO.

You either love them or hate them no middle ground

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

This is their problem, no room for expansion. Perhaps they'll get the hearts and minds of some of the kids over time but football is more often than not a generational thing. You're right you either love them or hate them and anyone who loves them will be on board already.

Having said that, it's a good ad IMO but it's probably a waste of their resources.

Said with no bias Barto? ;)

That's a very pessimistic and depressing view of their future. With the population in SA forecast to double by 2050 (I recall hearing) I'm sure they can find 10000 new members out of the extra 1000000.

That will take time obviously so, for now, they aren't going to win over anyone who barracks for someone else even if they try to do the "Kangaroos" thing so why even risk the heartland Port people? IMO they have go for their heartland for short term members and then target the kids for the longer term.

I have mates who hate Port whose kids are now Power supporters. I have also got mates who were PAM people whose parents hated Port. Some kids follow their parents and some don't. I did.

I dont take much stock in the population growth estimates. It's why we went to ten teams in the early 60s.

They might get a greater ratio of the supporter spread over time, who knows? But I think the Crows have the lions share stitched up now, I cant see it ever being 50:50 Crows/Power with the supporters who dont follow an out of state team.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Not sure if i heard/recall right but from memory Gordon Pickard donated some money last year with the stipulation it was spent on marketing the club.

Oh God, that's ******* awful. It's like they're saying we play Footy so badly the only footage we can show for promotional purposes is from training.

I think a move to Adelaide Oval in 2014 will see a big surge in interest in the Power and will see better attendances at game.

F*** Crow park.

I'd be surprised if it made any difference at all after the novelty value of the first few games wears off...

Its North Melbourne...and me not liking the ad has nothing to do with me supporting North Melbourne or them being Port Adelaide Power. If it was a good ad, I wouldnt of said anything.

Are you referring to North Melbournes or Hackhams marketing strategy?

NMFC just got a multi-million dollar facility upgrade...so the cash is obviously coming in these days...

Hackham is signing new sponsors every few days...new players are coming out...and we have a lot of community support...

I fail to see the point of anything you said...

i raised this with my boss today about the 1870 thing on there back. i agree with most of you about when you say
that wnt help them because people who follow football in SA either hate the magpies or love them by using the magpies founding year
is not the right way for new members their better off using thier own founding year which is 1996.

Very true. I've only ever heard it called 'shithole' other then it's proper names.

Come on Voice - I have heard it called that (or something close to it) by a loud minority

Typical profile = age < 20, has everything they need from parents and don't like sitting in the rain

Luckily I love sitting in the rain, my mum was on the single pension, I'm 30+.
Can't stand 'shithole park' because it has one level of toilets, food and beverage facilities because it was built like a dish instead of building levels. Parking, entrance gates and trying to leave the damn place is crap. Good playing surface and that is about it.
MCG with 86,000 and I was back at my cabin at the caravan park on the other side of the city in 25 minutes and didn't wait longer then 3 minutes for a beer.
Anything else you would like me to add about how much of a 'shithole' shithole park is?

Very good point. The current generation that has been brought up with the Docklands stadium of indoor football seems to have this great aversion to sitting in the elements to watch a game and at the first sign of rain, retreat to the loungeroom to watch from there.

As many of us who grew up with SANFL would attest, standing in driving rain, watching your team is part of supporting them. I thought. Seems very odd that many younger fans appear to feel that it's a bridge too far in many ways to cross and don't want to do it.

Time to harden up a bit.

End of rant.
