I don't think any of the leagues in the South East have a points system.

I have heard that Peglar didn't really get looked after at Strath and only the imports got some extra incentives each week. If that is the case then it's their own fault, if you can't look after and retain your good local & young players then you have no one else to blame but yourself when they up and leave.

Good luck to him i say, hopefully he can make a few dollars and also have the challenge of getting a struggling club off the bottom.

Ak has worked hard and has not been off the phone for the last 3 months, last time I spoke to him he said the league had given them a larger number of player points so they can recruit players for the coming season to prevent them from folding. He has taken youth with him and with the travel involved I can only see these players lasting a year or 2 but they will have plenty of spending money during that period, the $$$ these guys are getting is more than they earn in a 40hr a week job! Is AK just going to assist with coaching now?

You cant "LOOK AFTER" everyone mate! If clubs have to spend to recruit, which is the case for most of us, someone has to play for nothing or very little. Not saying this particular bloke is doing the wrong thing, but if the better players from each local club move on, we will end up having complete imported teams, is this what we want to see????

This is very interesting. Peglar and Webb were arguably their clubs most valuable players given their youth and '1 point' status. For Strath and Compass to replace them with players of similar quality in the short term it will cost them a stack more than what it would to "LOOK AFTER" them a bit. I think its a crazy situation but if clubs don't "LOOK AFTER" their young talent then the top 4 or 5 players for each club will be imported.

Magilla Gorilla makes a very valid point. Looking after players of their quality is vital to keeping the club strong and at the higher end of the ladder where these 2 sides have been.

I do not know if Roy Webb is still coaching the Compass U/17's. One would think that if the big fella goes, dad might just go for a drive each weekend to watch rather than coach.
Does anyone know what Roy is doing?

Yes it does, but there is a price to pay for travelling to play footy. The travel, being away from your mates every weekend and not training with your side is tough. I'm sure you could convince these guys to stay at home for a figure much smaller than that.

But then again, some guys feel guilty about taking any money from their 'home' club but have no problem taking it from a club they don't really care about.

Kaniva is over the border and plays in the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara League. They were separate teams in the old Tatiara League and in the new KNT league until 1996 (I think) when the combined to become Kaniva-Leeor.
Kaniva were the Bulldogs and Leeor the Bombers - now they are The Cougars.

Adding to the discussion about local players leaving. McLaren Vale must be getting frustrated too losing a few very talented youngsters.

I hear Ashley Whiley is going to Mount Compass (an ex captain i believe)
I have also seen Chris Konke has lodged a clearance to Myponga
And young Nat McMurtrie and michael Balas have made some noises about joining us down here at demonland. I would be very happy with these two boys.

What's going on down there?

I reckon that most local players that are any good would rather stick around for just a little bit of extra cash than drive 3-4 hoursand play without ya mates & get big coin.

But obviously these clubs are happy enough to have these 0 point young players leave and import 3-4 players and pay them instead - go figure???

I agree, why would you try and recruit guys for 400 or 500 that stick around for one year and piss off your lads who are very good players and young too so will only get better
