Great post.

If the boot was on the other foot and it was Norwood about to go under, I'd be gutted. I've always hated Norwood, but that's because of the great constests over the years.

The SANFL with Port will surely feel a little empty, regardelss of who you follow.

Agreed, no issues with that. But it would feel even worse if the Magpies becames the Powers reserves and the Crows got a reserves team, and deep down I think thats what we all feared. Most of us can visualise it, if in 3 years time the 'trial' hasn't worked and the Tiser and its cronies mobilise and starts lobbying for the Magpies to be the Powers reserve side and thereafter a Crows team comes in.

Better to kill this notion at the start.

Good on Sturt for standing up to those sort of bully boy tactics if correct.

it's garbage for starters. Port will rapidly evaporate any sympathy if they play these sabotage tactics. The stance of the clubs is being vindicated.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Which ones DID'NT involve Port Magpies ? Not many I bet.
We all love to beat Port and personally nothing beats the feeling of knocking off Port in a GF or at Alberton or winning a typical tough fight under lights at the Parade.
Do you really want to lose that ?

In order for me:
1) v Glenelg 87 GF
2) v West 91 GF
3) v Collingwood 86
4) v Melbourne 86
5) v South 83 Elim
6) v South 91 2nd semi
7) v Norwood 87 2nd semi
8) v Norwood x 2 at Norwood Oval 1990
10) v Norwood, Central, South & Glenelg 1983 Minor Round
14) v Eagles 07 Prelim
15) v West 04 Elim
16) v Eagles 07 Qual
17) v Sturt 05 Elim?

Might be a good win at Alberton or the 89 Fathers Day match after those

As far as has been reported all the clubs except PAMFC had huge turn arounds in their operting incomes and profit / loss situation come the end of season 2009 - even West who had a horrible big loss in 2008 had made a very big turn around and consolidation in 2009 and look well on track to do well in the future.

Thats all well and good, but it still points to the clubs having to derive most of their revenue from non-football related areas. Ie - most of the clubs finances these day are in the main not directly related SANFL-match income.

And.......whats the point, if 75 people turn up to a SANFL match but the clubs can still survive through other means, then whats the problem?

My concern would be "is that income stream sustainable". Normally not.

That the clubs cant survive without other means.

The salary caps and expenses being racked up by clubs are artificial and not self sustaining.

i doubt there's a clause in the sponsorship contract that state's it can broken if an unrelated club don't get their way

Yeah I would have thought the rumour was relating more to future funding for which there isn't a contract yet and believe me Ive seem a fair share of sponsors trying to exert their influence on club matters (Norths board elections last year and Scott with the Power are 2 egs that come to mind).
Let's hope that House Brothers are like professional sponsors should be in not trying to get involved with issues like that.

Do you really want to lose that? If Port go who is next? Make no mistake if they go others will
follow. Stop the rot here and now before the SANFL is gone.
We have to fight tooth and nail too keep these bastards in the comp.
I do not know enough details on the merger to comment but there has to be a way to keep
Port viable and think the other 8 clubs should help in any way possible.

I know what you're saying SDK, but that PAFC has gone.
Port's VFL/AFL entity is the problem. They can never hope to prosper and grow the way 2
composite SA teams could. If we have to have 2 AFL licences in SA, let's have 2 that
everyone can support. Far more money coming into the SANFL coffers for ALL of us to share,
justice finally seen to be done, old scars can start to heal and the Magpies faithful get their
real club back.
Simple really.

Er, not really pertinent to a Centrals or Eagles fan I'm afraid.

True, neither has beaten us when it truly counts.

Ah Booney I'd like to retract my sympathetic post under another thread, toward you and your plight. You've just reminded my why I had that sick, dirty feeling whet I started feeling some sympathy toward the Maggots ;)
I believe we've beaten you almost every time this century, when its counted.

Good on them indeed.

And at the end of the day, good luck to them finding a new major sponsor.

If it's true then it's pretty childish and immature from House Brothers, much like your post.

Perhaps House Bros saw the value of their sponsorship investment diminishing without Port in the comp.

So will Unley Oval now be known as 'Ransacked House' Oval or 'Demolished House' Oval. Well done Sturt, tell 'em to jam their House up their bung-hole!

Well, I hope at least ONE North Adelaide supporter turns up to our rally to "Save Our 'Pies", like I did decked out in my Magpies gear back when North Adelaide were fighting for their right to establish their own gaming facility when their proposal to facilitate it at the Northern Tavern was refuted!  I doubt very much that the gesture will be reciprocated now the shoe is on the other foot.

Shame on the SANFL for forcing the Magpies to stay in the comp back in '97 against their will. Back then it was purely for their own greed because they thought the Magpies faithful would still help line their fat-cat pockets. Fast-forward 13yrs and the SANFL now knows that's not the case, so they snuff them out.

The good part of it for the remainder of the league is that they can argue the PAFC has no claim to the premierships won in the SANFL prior to '97 & can only lay claim to their 2004 triumph and the PAMFC only won 2 premierships post-'97, so 34 flags have just disappeared into thin air.

Wedgie posted earlier that he'd turn out in his Rooster gear.

Unfortunately I'm not sure what sort of receoption he'd receive from some of the narrow minded PAMFC fans given North's involvement in this saga.

If there is a rally we can give it as much coverage on here as possible, I'd be keen to join in with my Rooster scarf like my mate Goatherder did with his Magpies scarf for our rally.
I won't be carrying my son on my shoulders for this one though!
Port have got to keep the attention on themselves to help get out of this mess.
