Fremantle never had a reserves side in the WAFL.

Well you could say they did. They were aligned with South Fremantle for a few years and so all Freo players would play for them in the WAFL when not picked. That team did well, but not as well as the West Coast aligned team East Perth. They won 3 flags while aligned and dominated the comp. Thankfully sanity prevailed and the idea was scrapped for the sake of the WAFL

Do you mean more bastardised than AFL teammates playing against each other at SANFL level and one can never be quite sure they are going in as hard as they could be against their teammates?

Yes, I mean more bastardised than that.

Do you reckon a footballer would pull out of a contest against a team mate?

Do you really think all AFL listed players go full throttle for their SANFL club all the time?

You mean players potentially being played out of position at their SANFL club at the request of the AFL club?
It suits the SANFL clubs to get these AFL listed players in their teams even though it comes at a but of a price.
I am not trying to contradict you here because a full on AFL reserves side is another level of bastardisation. But our comp is already compromised by the AFL. While I don't support Crows and Power reserves sides in the SANFL I think there are problems in the current interchange system that would be solved if the AFL listed players were left out of the SANFL clubs altogether.
