can someone explain to me please as to why klinger couldn't get a game in the T20 comp ? surely from his cricket form last year he deserved to be an opener at the start of the tournament rather than manou :? :?

spelly any stats on him to compare please ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Good call Bayman, and the answer is they can only pick eleven !

Stats in all First Class 20/20 games[not including international]
Would prob include offshore stats if applicable

PLAYER.....RUNS.........AVE.......S/RATE

MANOU......221.........11-63.....112-75
HARRIS.......531........31-23.....149-15
COOPER.....185.........16-81.....112-80
BAYGROVE..458..........20-81...111-43[ABOUT 99 IN BIG BASH]
BORGAS.......96.........10-66....105-49
CHRISTIAN...298........16-55....143-26
OBRIEN.......150........16-66.....115-38
__________________________________

KLINGER.....223..........20-27......128-90

KLINGERS stats are mainly batting in the middle order for Victoria
He clearly strikes quicker than 3 of the top 4 SA batters in 20/20 cricket

Mick would have every right to think why he is being totally overlooked in this format
He is no star star in 20/20 , but neither are a few other blokes in the top 4

He starts off too slowly for T20!!! Anyone got any stats for his first 30 balls in an innings? If you do, they will tell a story that confirms his non-selection in T20 as the right decision.

Only Harris stands out there...

mind you- a 30 plus average is excellent in that discipline, being so "hit and miss."

But Michael "Redback" Klinger won't be any closer to national selection. ;) Which is a load of Istanbul.

Yeah but Voges can be a little handy bowler and is an outstanding fielder, Klinger is not that far ahead of him with the bat that he can be lacking in both these areas.

Will add Voges is a number 5-7 type batsmen with power hitting abilites, Klinger doen't have the big hitting game IMHO to bat in those positions in ODI. Klinger is also not that outstanding to shuffle the whole line up around to accomadate him at number 1-3

If you are relying on Voges to bowl you are in trouble and Klinger is miles ahead as a batsman. Not that i think Klinger should be in the side but he should be ahead of Voges.

Richard Earles article in todays Advertiser sums things up on Michael Klingers season

QUOTE
SA selectors did not pick Klinger for the FR CUP opener vrs Tasmania but the prolific batsman had the last laugh

KLINGERS FRANGER CUP SEASON
DNP
0 [1] was not out
29[54]
76[120]
34[29]
25[32]
124[133]
113[123]
51[71]
50[58]

502 runs
621 balls
80-8 strike rate
55-77 average
After that 0 when clearly not out, the run MAXchines lowest score was 25
The run MAXchine finished up running 3rd in the most runs in the FRC
HODGE 608
BAILEY 532
KLINGER 502

Just about every time SA played in a FRC game this year the Foxsports commentators commented on how Klinger was left out of the first game
A great majority of SAFOOTY posters were also critical of the run MAXchine not being selected first up
Who can forget Klingers disbelief at being dropped just b4 the game started

This absolute blunder of blooping blunders cost SA dearly after losing too many early games in the FRC

Well done to the run MAXchine for 3 reasons
1 Most important of all, let his bat do the talking
2 Making me look good on this thread
3 For making most runs as Bayman/Mal backed him for most FRC runs for SA this season

Well batted Maxie

but mal you can not comment on his overall stats and say about the qld match when he was unlucky to be given out when you dont mention that fact he was stone plumb lbw against wa. take out that century and its just a solid summer of cricket, whilst i agree he shouldnt have been dropped he also puts a lot of pressure on his batting partners early in his innings as he pretty much always starts very slowly and if you have 2 batters going slow you will get nowhere
