Yes, you try and gain extra spin by throwing the ball, no advantage. The chucking rule got introduced to outlaw players gaining extra pace by throwing the ball.
You have to be joking surely?
Go and try it mate.

I face an offie at training and when he chucks them with a Murali action, the ball turns 50% more.

But Murali doesn't chuck it, it's been proven through bio-mechanics.

Adelaide Hawk wrote:I don't wish to participate in a debate about illegal deliveries but I would like to give my point of view, then move on.
My statement "if Murali doesn't throw, nobody does" was made because I regard Murali's action as an abomination and blatantly illegal, even by the modifications brought forward that allow him to play. This is why I don't wish to discuss whether other bowlers chuck or not.
My opinion on Murali's action is shared by a number of Test and one day umpires and match referees who see the futility in calling Murali, even though his action has become even more questionable over time.
In the Laws of Cricket, the definition of a legal delivery does not discriminate by means of the pace at which the ball is bowled. It is either delivered with a legal action, or it is not, so all these arguments about whether a spinner gets more purchase, etc, are superfluous.
Gideon Haigh once quoted Don Bradman as saying the issue of chucking in cricket is a vexed one as two people can watch the same delivery and have diametrically points of view. In my case, I see a blatant chuck, and am genuinely astonished when someone else deems it legal. That's life.
I am intrigued by the latest fashion, especially amongst off spinners of having the over-sized shirt sleeve buttoned at the wrist, a fashion worn with great success by 1960s West Indian quick Charlie Griffith. You can draw your own conclusion to that comment.
The only other comment I will make, I have been saying this for the past few years, and you can mark my words (bookmark this, or whatever), but you can rest assured that once Murali retires, the governing bodies of cricket will suddenly have a clamp down on bowlers with illegal deliveries .. and not before time.

I can turn a doosra about 6-12 inches with monotomus regularity
I can bowl off breaks that turn 6-12 inches with regularity
I can also bowl leg breaks than turn 6-24 inches with regularity
I bowl an inswinger that can swing 6-18 inches intermittently
Ive achieved this over 35 years playing cricket
I can still do the spinners in the nets to Bayman and Mighty Tiger
That remarkable talent is that I do all those deliveries with a norMAL legit action
So is it that hard for proffesional cricketers ?

He didn't mention the length of the pitch or that he bowls long hops to achieve the turn.
Mal, you should go by the username of "Genius", and must be the unluckiest bloke never to have played test cricket

The bowler sent down seven overs, picking up 1 for 49.
