Nathan Wagner took "nine for" last Saturday. Can anyone remember when this was last done in A-Grade ?
Strangely enough it was in a losing side. Morphies won 144 to 117.

I reckon Pencil Jones was the last person to beat that, he took 10for 60 after having 0/40 at one stage against Reynella.
Pretty sure he made 91 the following week too.
I'd say it was around 93/94.

Thanks Smithy, now that you mention it "Pencil taking ten" rings a distant bell. One massive cricketer. I remember dropping into the Shoe one training night while they were having centre-wicket practise. Pencil was fielding near the boundary in front of clubrooms. He got a coke from the bar and while he was drinking it the ball was hit at him --- put up one hand, caught it, and threw it back ---- didn't spill a drop.
The guy was an absolute freak. Fair sort of centre-half-forward/on-baller for the Shoes as well.
I'm sure Shoe Boy could tell us plenty more about this out-and-out champion.

That grumpy old Mule from the wineflies took 9/17 against Morphies around 99/00 ish.
Pencil was a gun and I reckon Smithy took a few A Grade bags as well.

[Pencil is in the Air force and has recently had a couple of tours to Afganistan  I would think he would be pretty safe as he sits in front of a radar screen in a bunker and as I asked on his days off do you go window shopping.NO

There is talk of him coming out when permitted to get involved in footy this year and also wants a run with a few older lads in the C grade.

Warms the cockles of my heart to see players such as Scarfy and T.Wickstein doing well in A grade, I captained these kids for a couple of years in C grade when they were coming up through the ranks and they were great kids. Go Shoes! :D
