Why do think there are many more one sided results in the HFL compared to the Amateurs? Do you think it has something to do with the relegation system in the SAAFL? Crap teams get relegated, better ones come up, and therefore the weak are weeded out leaving a more even competition year to year. Here is a hypothetical- what if you stopped the relegation system now, and have a look in ten years how even div one and two are? Five years ago Goodwood Saints were playing Pooraka in divvy 1, who are now in div 4- How one sided do you think that game would be? 30 goals? Similar results would be seen if any one the top div 1 clubs played Pooraka, Kilburn or Woodville South, who have all be in div 1 at least once in the last decade. The strength of country footy leagues can only be measure fairly by looking at the top 4 to five clubs. Last year’s HFL top four, Uraidla, Blackwood, Hahndorf and MT Lofty would take it right up to any div 2 team, and give most div 1 teams a run for their money. Teams like Bridgwater or Lobey would probably be around the div 4 to five mark on a good day. Of course there are going to lop-sided results when you have teams competing with such a massive talent gulf between them. If you were able to replace Lobey and Bridgy with Torrens Valley and Kersbrook it would be a much more even comp. I love the amateur system; it makes for great contests in most games, every week. It would be great if the HFL could adopt a similar system but due to the disparity between HFL clubs junior ranks this will not happen in the near future. The SAAFL does not have to worry about scheduling juniors in sync with seniors, the HFL does.

The standard of football in Div 1 SAAFL is much better IMO than HFL and we all know the reason why. I also know that in 1995/96 footy in the Hills was of a lesser standard than present because the ex SANFL players weren't in the recruiting mix as they are now. I do still see some Hills games and my original statement still stands, so unless or until the HFL adopts a similar process of promotion & relegation, the tough games every week will not be present in the HFL There are no easy games in Div 1 SAAFL as in the HFL. I bet Uraidla would pencil in every season, wins against Loby & Bridgewater,as would Kersbrook & TV against CUE, Maccy and others, you can't do that in the SAAFL as the strength of the clubs doesn't allow it. Am well aware of the strength of clubs like Uraidla but am speaking competition in total, not isolated clubs.

I have heard that there was a bit of pressure put on him to leave the club. Not surprising really.
