I don't think it would be Daniel Healy's fault if he left North, more the fact we have a plethora of key forwards especially with Wundke returning and us having another one. Schwarze might feel he has a lot better opportunities back at the Eagles and is familiar with the surroundings there and if there was one reason he left there which is now gone why not return?
If he does I wish him luck, with a bit of confidence and fitness he's a bloody good player, I certainly haven't a bad word to say about him from my experiences with him at North and hope he does well (but not too well against us as he used to! ;) )

Well he hasn't been officially named as Eagle YET!!
I know before he went to North that Westies were falling over themselves to get him perhaps he will head there.

Would be interesting if he does turn up back at Oval Ave, no doubt the guy can play and on his day could win a game off his own boot, but 1 good game in every 4 or 5 won't cut it these days..regardless of where he plays...his attitude on the ground reminded me a bit of Matty Richardson..could do anything if he put his mind to it.
Trust the process.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him at Oval Ave again and I for 1 would be one of the few to be happy to see him there. Agreed he has had some issues but on his day can be a match winner. We need his quality at the Eagles.

Roy Laird a little nervous this upcoming draft may take a fair bit of the Dogs talent from that 20-25 year old bracket...

Zac Milbank @ The Advertiser wrote:
Laird nervous as pack of Dogs eyes AFL shot

CENTRAL District could be left in "turmoil" should the Bulldogs lose the bulk of their eight mature-age players to nominate for this year's AFL draft.
Having secured its eighth premiership from 10 successive grand finals, the SANFL powerhouse is suddenly under serious threat from AFL rivals searching for "talented twenties" as well as "talented teens".

Headed by former North Melbourne goalsneak Eddie Sansbury, delisted Power ruckman Jon Giles and hard-working Brayden O'Hara, the list of Dogs hoping to be thrown a lifeline is so extensive, it has left coach Roy Laird feeling "nervous".

"It would create absolute turmoil, to be honest," said Laird, when confronted with the worst-case scenario on November 26. "It's certainly not a number we'd be expecting to go but it's very unpredictable so who knows?

"So we've got to be prepared for the second draft (pre-season) with some replacements in toe and obviously some juniors would get an opportunity.

"But it (worst-case scenario) could cause us some major headaches."

It is understood Geelong has been keen on eye-catching Ben Nason, while clever forward Scott Dutschke is coming off a career-best season. Former Power midfielder Ryan Williams will be hoping for a second chance, while Trent Goodrem would have turned heads after winning this year's Jack Oatey Medal.

"We'd become nervous in the type of player we have got in that 20-23 (age bracket)," said Laird, adding the club expected to lose young guns Daniel Menzel and possibly Jack Hannath.

"They're senior-framed players with great work attitudes, character of person and talented natural footballers.

"For those individuals we wish them the best of luck but from a club point of view, selfishly, we hope to keep most of them."

Grand finalist Sturt could be hit hard if Michael Coad departs Unley, while fellow Double Blues Patrick Fittock and Josh Cubillo were surprise nominees.

Former Sydney Swans James Meiklejohn (Port Magpies) and Sam Rowe (Norwood) could be enticing for an AFL club seeking to add size to its list, while delisted Crows pair Nick Gill and Greg Gallman (North) have also thrown their hats into the ring.

This year's joint Magarey Medallists Rhys Archard (North) and James Ezard (West) have given themselves another opportunity to be drafted, with 23-year-old Ezard more likely to add to the four AFL games he managed with the Power in 2006.

"Whether or not those players have a trait that the (AFL) scouts don't like, I'm not sure," Laird said. "These days they've become very heavily athletic based and somewhere there might be a measurement which reads low in their sprint or aerobic capacity, I don't know. But certainly our boys, in our team environment, they've proven successful for us so if they can get into a good culture and AFL group, our blokes certainly won't go wondering in terms of workrate because they're all very good in that area."

All 8 won't go anyway so it is just something to get a headline.

Not as if they don't have 3 or 4 players covered anyway.

The only ones likely to go would be Dutschke, Nason and O'Hara and thats not even a super guarantee either.

Has Dutschke already gone? I thought I read he was moving to the Gold Coast.

There was some talk that the Gold Coast side were keen to recruit him and have him play in their VFL side next year, but nothing official as yet.

Your mail is very much wrong. Daysie played most of the Year as a Half Forward with the occasional run down back. No disrespect but he would be the exact opposite of a "very quick forward". Marking target at Half forward would be what I classify him as.

I give Nason very little chance. Midfielders his age really need to be playing very good league footy to be drafted. Dutcshke and O'Hara have more chance only because of the new teams coming in and teams might have to get creative looking for new players. I suspect they might get asked to play for GC17 in the VFL with the hope of doing well enough to provide some experience and leadership for the kids for a couple of years in the AFL. It's just so hard for guys to get up to the grade if they're not drafted at 17/18 unless they're bigger blokes.

Scott Welsh officially an IN for the Eagles...

From the member email...

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club would like to announce the signing of Scott Welsh and the retirement of Peter Fiacchi for 2010.

Scott Welsh – 2 years

Originally from West Adelaide, Scott was drafted to North Melbourne, making his debut with the Kangaroos in 1996. In 2000 he was traded to the Adelaide Crows where he spent 8 seasons, kicking 270 goals in 129 games, before moving to the Western Bulldogs in 2008.

At the end of the 2009 season Scott announced his intention to retire from AFL football and return to South Australia.

Upon the announcement Senior Coach Michael Godden said “We are obviously delighted that Scott has chosen the Eagles as his preferred destination upon his return to the SANFL competition”

“We are looking forward to Scott’s contribution to the football club both from an on field and off field perspective where we hope he can pass on his considerable AFL experience to our younger players”.

Scott Welsh said “When I decided to retire from AFL football, I knew I wanted to return home and play in the SANFL competition and I am thrilled to be joining the Eagles”.

“There is a buzz around the Club at the moment that has me genuinely enthused about the challenge that lies ahead”.

Peter Fiacchi - retirement

Peter has decided to retire after 133 games with the Club, debuting against Port Adelaide in Round 8 of 2001.

Announcing his intentions to the playing group at the first night of pre-season training last night, Peter said “I have thought long and hard over the last few weeks and have come to the decision that with my work, study and other personal commitments I can no longer squeeze it all in and train to the level that is required to play good SANFL football”.

“It has been an unbelievable journey over the last decade with lots of ups and downs but I have loved every minute of it and I will miss the club, the supporters and especially all the boys deeply”

“It is unfortunate to have to come to this decision this year as I would have loved to have played on with our new coach, Michael Godden, as I feel he is going to be fantastic for the Club and will see plenty of success in years to come”.

I am sure that you’ll all join me in thanking Peter for his contribution to the Eagles and wish him all the best in the future
