You dont hear much from me on here any more, and after this you wont again, hopefully.
But the captains have a duty of care to all players on the field, not just thier own players, to make sure that the game, and its players are protected. I hear from old heads around our club that played back when the association had no heat rule, and they played as did i during this time, but even they say that the heat now is different to what it was back then, maybe rudd's right!
a forecast 39deg tomorrow will bring end of day scores of all out for 80 v 4/30, or all out 60 v 8/50 etc etc, after the days play on reflection can anyone honestly say that it was a great days play, more often than not you will shake your head.
90% of people that play cricket work during the week, wether it be in the office or out in the full face of the sun. So by the time they take the field, after the week we've just had, the body is tired, un-fit, un-healthy. Are any of us bigger men for playing in the heat, some would say "beating the heat"? i dont think so. In my and most people's view we're stupider than most others that stayed indoors!
The argument that cricket, or sport in general should be called off once the temperature gets past the core body temp is not a silly one, although it will never make the handbook.
Good luck to everybody tomorrow, i've always been a huge advocate for common sense in these conditions, and acting accordingly. I certainly hope that a lot of the lower grades in ASCA make the correct descision and play a 1 day match next week.
Best of luck to all.
Go Plympton.
