a game of 2 halves on the scoreboard, but looking at sturt they still had 12 scoring shots in the 2nd half and probably should have won by more.

credit to the eagles for battling away

A bit scary toward the end but our first win over the Eagles at Footy Park. Our first win over the Eagles in a final, our first win by less than three goals in a final for almost thirty years if I remember MAL's stats correctly.

well done sturt the better team on the day
Eagles first half and lack of coaching moves was awful .
BUT that is where the Eagles deserved to be at the end of the year fourth. Not bad in a rebuilding year.

Yeah, I think that's where we are at as far as this year goes. I still think we would have had a better chance against Central this week.

Coming from 41 points down will rarely win you any match. That's the bottom line.
I was happy we did show fight from then on, and I knew that when the score was 9.11 to 7.11 we would never drop off if Sturt got a goal. But it's a shame that the scoreline was 7.5 to 1.0 to begin with.

Polec took the game on in the third, as did Rimington and McKenzie. But if there is a weakness to the latters' game it's one-on-one. And twice Sturt got a goal out of that weakness. Johncock and Sharples were given too much latitiude throughout the match, and the same goes for most Sturt players in the first.

Eagles the better team? How did Sturt end up winning?
Listening to the call on the radio I thought Sturt had the better of it through the course of the day, but I 'd be interested to hear from people who actually saw the match. Especially in light of what Micky has written on here.
Typo perhaps?

Well, ok, it was a tale of two halves, however our 2nd half didn't match your 1st half.

My thoughts also.
Great spirit shown by your team today though. They never gave up did they? Siren brought relief for me, it was really looking dangerous for us. If we lost after holding such a commanding lead I'd need a psychiatrist to get me through the off season.
Finally it was a very honorable loss to you guys, and a lucky win for us IMO. Fortunately we did enough in this first half.

Can't argue with that at all, you would have been impressed when the Double Blues were running all over the ground, particularly in the first.

Then I think we were able to apply more pressure, and that started late in the 2nd. When struck me though, is that our players had to fight hard for every goal, where as it was the opposite in the first quarter for Sturt. Save for a great goal from Cica in that quarter, and it would have been donuts.

What you talkin'bout Willis?

Geez if I said that last week about Sturt, I would have been lynched.

Eagles were smashed in the first half.

Eagles battled and were better than us in the third.

Eagles were better than us in the last 10 mins, but not earlier, in the last.

Overall, half a footy match by us got us the win. It was a good win from the perspective that we needed to salvage something after last weeks demoralising loss, but overall it wasn't a great game from Sturt.

All good comments and pretty much sums it up beautifully I think. Eagles did a good job, almost stole it, thank God, for my own sanity, we were able to get home, but not sure we'll achieve much next week.

#24 and cicca was terrific for the eagles today. i actually thought the eagles played the better football more often, but sturt banged on goals in a row more often. goes to show the worth of the ken farmer medallist is to sturt.

He has certainly improved considerably and was very good today. IMO though, BOG would have to go to Sheedy. He was brilliant and didn't stop trying when some of his team mates did in the third qtr.

As others have said, a game of two very different halves... Sturt really stopped running in that third qtr and if they want even the slightest chance of beating the bays they will need to remain switched on for every minute of the game.

Great to see McLeay back on deck and in top form and Coad was sensational up forward. He really is the man who could win the game for us next week.

Good to win today but the way we played the second halve does not inspire confidence for next week... :-ss
