About bloody time!!! In all honesty it was a good second half performance after a pretty average first half!Well done to the boys, and it was great to see Jason Torney being chaired off in his last home game for the panthers. If the players out there today and those who play for us in the future can play with the same spirit and determination that Torney has during his career we will definately be on the right path to becoming a successful club!
Finally some joy for the players the supporters and club! Bottle that feeling fellas because we all want to see more joy next season and hopefully for the last game against the roosters at prospect! :D

It's been a looong time coming, but you couldn't have scripted it any better :partyman:

Port used the footy far better in the first half, South, despite having more than their fair share of F50 entries just could not hit a target. Port ran hard forward, always seeming to have a loose man through half forward. South did absolutely nothing with the breeze in the second quarter. 1.5 to 6.4 at the half.

South opened brightly after the long break but Port managed to keep a 4 to 5 goal lead for most of the quarter. Port's final goal of the quarter came from a shocking South turnover in the back half. But South were running the harder, and a couple of late goals had the heads up at the final change.

The final Q was a beauty, South managing to regularly force the ball forward despite Micklejohn's dominance in ruck, Warren seemingly on the end of everything, the skill level lifted 100%, and like Port in the first half, it seemed as though we always had an extra body or two at the contest, particular in our forward line. Port went missing, but still managed to have a couple of opportunities late to pinch it.

Great result for the club, the players, the retiring skipper, the coach and us poor bastards that have sat through 5 winless months. :D :D

Better players in no real order: Lyon, Warren, Crabb, Farmer, Sandery, Cockshell, Torney, with a mention to young Murphy who i liked the look of. NFC..cooky started well, finished well, but didn't do much in between.

Lastly, the umpiring was absolutely appalling, and i'm just thankful we got the points despite it.

The free kick count was 29 -12 Maggies way, maybe they were port supporters, besides, its not the ammount they give its those that they DONT give and where they give them, that count

Well done Panthers, long time between drinks!

One for Spelly ... when was the last time Port had only 4 wins in a season (no, they won't beat Sturt next week)?

Far from it but the worst decision of the day definitely went against the Magpies. Was pretty pivotal as well. It was in Q3 in time on, can't remember the players involved but Port had the ball, kick to the forward pocket in a 1-on-1 contest and a south player absolutely molested his opponent. Went from being what should have been a kick to the port goalsquare, into being a south goal. Brought the margin back to four goals I think.

Rocked up to the game with the missus with Port leading 4.2 to 0.0 and thought it was gonna be a long day in the rain. I wasn't sure if I was more shocked at the score or the fact she actually agreed to come.

Never thought we were out of it at half time because even with one goal on the board, we were playing far better than that imo.

Remarkable second half and it didn't really feel like we had kicked six goals in the third quarter; very workmanlike. The last quarter was sublime. Torney was brilliant. Lot of run and carry. Cockshell and Handby both were very good. That second half was one of the best I've seen us play in a long time; although I've missed a few games this year.

Very interesting decision in the third quarter I think. Port player kicked a massive drop punt from 70m with the wind, marked right on the line. No score given but it was very, very close. Goal ump in the right place so you go with that, but that decision was the game turner imo. It would have been the steadier for the Maggies and would have been that impossible type of goal that just stops all momentum the opposition has. Went to the other end and we pegged it back by six again.

Summerton was annoying. More so for the fact he was so brilliant today. There was a play in the final quarter where the kick out had gone to him in the right forward pocket. It was switched across the ground, and he was front-and-centre when that resultant kick went to the opposite wing. Ran 150 metres in the space of 20 seconds.

Not a matter of how bad were Port but that South were better! Second half was remarkable, played without fear, attacked and played on regardless of the score, took risks, commited themselves and never gave up, result, you win! Inspite of our poor year i 've seen enough throughout various stages of the season to believe if the club can keep this playing group together and with some selective recruiting the light at end of tunnel is not a train.
This win without first picks Parry, Boyd, Rolfe & Smith. Umpiring was not acceptable to the level expected of the SANFL, it was the players own discipline (from both sides) that needs to be congratulated in light of sub-standard and totally inadequate umpiring.

Just a note on the Noarlunga crowd as well.

The turnup of 2153 yesterday made it

- A total over the 10 home games of 20,025 .. the first time the club has broken the 20,000 home game barrier since moving all home games there in 1996.

- The 4th successive season that the Panthers have recorded an increase in home game attendances,

2003 - 1505 per home game
2004 - 1656 per home game
2005 - 1530 per home game
2006 - 1768 per home game
2007 - 1901 per home game
2008 - 1931 per home game
2009 - 2003 per gome game

Given the general lack of wins 4 straight years of increases is an excellent effort.

Surely more a reflection of the opposition supporters travelling than South supporters increasing their numbers?
