Thanks sojourner. I listened to the interview and it sounds to me like South are on the right track. I think that the doggies had to get their act together off the field before the on-field success could occur. At some stage in the future I think South will be a powerhouse of the comp.

The CEO put a good spin on Pyman's re-appointment and then his sacking. He put a good spin on Jack's coming and going. That's what he does. As dark as things are he always sounds convincing in explaining why things have happened and plans to change things. It's time that things do actually change for the better.

Yes things seem pretty bad,
Yes work needs to be done,
We've all been involved in clubs that have had some trouble in one way or another at some point.
There are also a lot of great people at South/The Panthers.
Have some respect for those trying to do the right thing/s.
Please..

They've never been "up there", that's the problem. They cant be like Richmond in the AFL and constantly rebuilding. They're rolling in cash and have a fantastic recruiting zone.

I'd love to see them finaly challenge, it'd be great for the comp, but it looks like it's never going to happen. Ever.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Ever Barto? Ever?

I can recall a time when the CDFC went cap in hand to NAFC and asked to merge. We were shown the door. They were dark days! But we reinvented ourselves. South can do the same and the "spin doctor" sounds like he is on the right track. Don't downgrade the value of good spin occasionally - it has to be backed up with results though as some stage.

Consider yourself corrected as No, that did not occur.
If the SANFL had their way it would have though.

Barto - to say that South have "never been up there" shows your lack of respect for the history of the game. South have had two dominant periods. The 90's and the 30's. 8 flags across those two eras. The first was cut short by the League's move to electorate football. The second by the war and the subsequent move of the population away from the inner city and out to the suburbs. They have had to re-invent themselves for a third time with the move to Noarlunga. It will take time to set down roots, but the club can rise again. Perhaps even in your life time if the SANFL stops handing places like Morphett Vale and Happy Valley to other clubs.

South have got no idea how to get the best out of their zones. If they want to continue with the tactic of using local talent they need to get the best of what's available. Only getting second rate players only ensures that they will remain a second rate club. Unfortunately South have no compehension of what they need to do to successfully work their zones.

Years 2000-2099
All clubs will experience the inevitable ups and downs
At the minit its the mighty Centrals who are dominating
In 10 years time it could be any of the 9 existing clubs on top
Any club worth its salt can :
Get financial
Recruit intelligently
Create a winning culture
Crowds will more than likely esculate
Memberships will more than likely increase
Etc etc

Its a transparently clear simple formula, some clubs are doing it better than others,
BUT
Most importantly all clubs can make thier own luck and become successful

The Panthers will become a force in the forseeable future
As Garth Porter once sung ' Its just a matter of time.'

There have been 2 informal discussions by the clubs in the very far past to examine possibilities re some sort of merge. At the time neither club was in any financial difficulty and the basis of the discussions revolved around future expansion possibilities re an AFL bid - so that tells you how long ago the discussions were.

Despite what many might think, the CDFC and NAFC have a very close off field relationship forged through the 2 CEO's. Helps that both club's financial directors are joint business partners so there would be no "smoke and mirrors" or secrets in reality. Centrals through Bill Cochrane were insturmental in assisitng North with the Gaming relocations in 2002 / 2003 prior to and post the issue with the set up of the old Sizzler Site and then the subs move away because of the Northern Tavern's Court Appeals.

See how the SANFL final pan out.

Why would you sign him now on a long term contract. The club has been stung before for coaches that have not worked out.

With Sampson's inexperience it would be too risky for a long term deal IMO

12 months...mmmm...maybe me thinks :?
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

My tip is that South will make the announcement they have renewed Clays contract for a further period of time at the Clubs Best & Fairest count in a few weeks time, the players and supporters need to know before the media and all the 'others' do.
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting
