Glenelg could well play Sturt another two times before this year is out. However I look forward to playing Sturt with Grima, Fisher, Holmes and at least one of our AFL blokes. Mind you Sturt will have Thurstans, McLeay and possibly Reilly (if he's released by the Crows - like a couple of ours he could be held back for post-season trades or surgery). Not saying he will or that ours will, but the reality is both teams could be lookng at fringe players during the trade period.

So roll on September

yeah i was surprised to see mcleay playing reserves today

A very strong rumour that things are not good for the Sturt players' end of season trip.

Seems they may have put the bank on a certain Home victory ... guess it will be a sleep out in tents in the backyard this year fellows.

Anyone gloats after winning 2 points in a minor round match with the finals around the corner and a high likelihood of playing the same team again then certainly isn't the sharpest tack in the box.

The season starts in 3 weeks ... if the Bays are really lucky, it may possibly start in 4.

Anything that has happened prior to that (including today) means absolutely SFA.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

csbowes wrote:... for what its worth, I don't agree with the Jeckyl and Hyde analogy mentioned by another poster, Sturt simply has issues with Glenelg's game plan, much like West does with Sturt for example. The team isn't playing brilliantly one week and poorly the next, they're stringing together whopping victories against teams below them but then getting smacked down by Glenelg. That's the second time this year that a run of great wins has been ended by Glenelg...

Agreed. I didn't mean that you'd be up and down on a week to week basis but that Sturt seem to get a few good wins on the board and then have a nasty habit of suddenly falling into a huge heap. Example 1: Last years finals series. Looked very good going into the finals then choked against Centrals, followed by a cheap win against Norwood then smashed by Glenelg. Example 2: Matches this last June. Flogged Centrals, then caned by North then lost to Glenelg...

Sturt (and Centrals) most important match other that finals is next weekend...

I gather you're basing this on Glenelg being pumped by Central twice this year, while Sturt beat Centrals easily... and there being only two grand finals in which Central have played either of us, one in which Glenelg got pumped, one in which Sturt pumped Central.

I think you might need to reassess mate! :-)

I think its probably more accurate to say that Centrals have the wood on Glenelg, Glenelg have the wood on Sturt and Sturt do a decent job of matching Central these days, so evens there...

Ahh righto... understand. The thing is we stop dead against a decent opponent. The choke against Centrals in the last term of the QF last year was a shocker, as we had you on toast up until then, but then just lost it when Centrals did their last hurray.

I still feel that win for you won the flag that year... no disrespect to Glenelg, but I just felt Central had some doubts about themselves going into that finals series, but that win put those thoughts to bed and you went on with it.

In hindsight, it might have been better had we played Centrals today and Glenelg next week...

My mistake... pumped and then fought back from being pumped for a commendable draw! :-)

... which I would have gladly taken today! :-)

1. someone lost a heap of money today on sturt, will they ever learn! :D
2. onya chambo - 0.1 wasnt it?
3. 9 zip since early 2007, what is it with sturt when they play glenelg?
4. sturt are fantastic when they are allowed to run with the footy, unfortunately for norman and his boys this will never happen against the current glenelg line up.
5. the momentum is building nicely at brighton road at the right time of the year, we peaked too early last year, if only we correct our kicking for goal we will have a big say in the next 6 weeks

Very nervous lad there today was I. The Glenelg side missing Fisher, Logan a late call up to the Power, no Grima, Hinge nor Holmes, I thought were there for the taking....

But after half time, Glenelg controlled the centre & midfield and just shut down Sturt's running game, and supply to Chambo (although I thought Mills did a good job on him).

Wasted a lot of ball in the forward 50, but with a couple of key inclusions coming, that should sort out our forward structure nicely.

Well done to Chris Hall on his 100 SANFL games. Well done to Sammy Rudolph & Gus Lally on returns via the B grade.

The Bays won all three grades v the Blooze too this weekend 8)

And hi to Voice, who came over to the Louts after the game and said hi. Class act. :D

A very dour struggle for 2.5 quarters. In recent matches Sturt has served up a physical game to the Tigers, hitting bodies hard, and today was no exception. Numbers at the packs, pressure on the ball carriers. Glenelg largely wasted the breeze in the first term, but Sturt couldn't make the most of it either in the second. Behind at the half but the game had been an even arm-wrestle to that point.

The Bays didn't break the shackles until late in the third and then piled on 4 or so - and a few behinds - with rapidity. Sturt were gone from that point. In the final term Glenelg players found loose teammates at will; Sturt either could not or would not keep up with them. I wonder if Glenelg simply outlasted Sturt, coming off the bye and having fresher legs. The same thing happened in the ressies game, the Bays simply dominated the final term.

I was pleased to see that while in the second term Glenelg players were having dobs at goal from 40-50 out, and not making the distance into the stiff breeze at that end, in the final term Bays players with possession at the 40-50 mark would more often look for a close lead. That to my mind was the exact correct thing to do. Sure, a few of those passes came unstuck, and almost all of the resulting shots on goal resulted in behinds, but it was undoubtedly the better choice.

I was coming back from buying drinks at the northern end early in the last, just after Glenelg kicked the opening goal of the term, and listening to the Blooze fans as I threaded my was past them was amazing: "she's warming up now", "that's it we're gone", etc, etc. So much for that old never-say-die attitude!

Nice to see Chambo held to a donut again, but it is fair to say that he wasn't delivered much. When he was, Millsy had his number.
