The player ?
The player ended up in jail for about a couple of weeks ?
Anyone recall this one ?
Was it during or after the game ?
The player was Sid Simeon, a WA recruit who played his 1st and only league match for Norwood in Round 1 1965. He kicked 2 goals in a loss to Woodville and was dropped the following week.
The match in question was the final minor round game in 1965. Simeon had played reserves that day, and I understand he'd had a few refreshments during the day. Central got up by 4 points in the dying seconds, and after the siren sounded Simeon jumped the fence and attacked umpire Brian Lees.
Fortunaly, the only injuries received by Lees was hurt pride and a torn shirt sleeve. On the other hand, Simeon received 10 days imprisonment, not sure of the amount of the fine, and wasn't at Norwood in 1966.
Speaking of players copping one from opposition supporters, didn't Rick Davies cop an umbrella over his head from an irate Port supporter after the 1976 Grand Final?
